You are right Jaishree. I always ask those MCPs one basic question.
"See, you want to flirt with your sister-in-law. Suppose your wife wants to flirt with her younger brother-in-law? How will you react to it?"
Any man who can provide an honest answer to this question will be a good man.
thanks for the nice words you have about my story.
    regards,

    Dear Angel,
I am deeply disturbed by your sister's problem. Ask her to consult an elder in the family. Or to go for marriage counselling. Complicated problems like these cannot be answered in absentia.
    regards,

    Dear ILites,

I happened to read this story today and was surprised. I am a little ashamed to say that this has happened in my family itself and the ending a little different. Let me share it with you.

I have a cousin ( My Atthai's son) living in Madurai (Unga Area). He got married. Parents lived on an upper unit of the apartment block while he lived in the lower unit.

He had a normal married life. Wife got pregnant. She was working and decided to get her sister to help out. A baby girl was born and sister stayed on to help. One day my cousin's wife found out that her sister was pregnant. Further investigation revealed that my cousin is the culprit. Both my cousin and his wife's sister were adament about their love. My cousin's wife however did not decide as in the story and decided to renounce family life and went on to become a sanyasini. My cousin married his wife's sister and they are living happily ever after. The first daughter is being beought up by them along with their 2 children today.

I only heard about this when I went to visit my Atthai 2 years ago. All she said was what could she do. Her daughter in law had always spoken highly about her family against them and refused her help and got her sister for help. When this happend and her sister got pregnant, she felt responsible for her sister and gave way. I know this sounds screwed up. I left the house and I did not even want to see my cousin or his second wife. Unfortunately they were in the unit below and invited me in. I walked in and saw the eldest girl calling my cousin's wife 'mother' I really felt like throwing up when I heard that. I was barely there for 2 minutes and tehn I walked out.

Who is to be blamed here?

Is it the 1st wife for allowing this to happen?
Is it my cousin who allowed this to happen?
Is it the 2nd wife for allowing this to happen?
Or is it my Atthai and Athimber for allowing this to happen?

I guess they are all to be blamed but the sad reality is life moves on. They have been accepted by the immediate family and close relative though they talk behind their back.

I am glad that atleast my parents have installed better values in my brothers and I. Thank God for that.

    Lakshmi

    Dear Lakshmi,

I have seen my story coming true in a couple of other cases. But this is quite rare.

Things like this are bound to happen. I simply detest the custom of inviting one's sister when one's pregnant. It's a sure recipe for disaster.

I have been having a strong sense of values. But I know what I really am. So I avoid all situations that would give raise to temptations. In my case God knows me better than I do. That's why he saw to it that I don't have a sister-in-law.

That's why when I pray to him, I always cry before him,
    "நாயோனை நாளும் நல்லவனாக்க
    ஓயாமல் ஒளியாமல் உன்னருள் தந்தாய்"

And the only practical advice I give to those whose seek my counsel is the famous sanskrit proverb
    balavaan indriyakraamaha
    Most powerful are the senses.

Just imagine Lakshmi. (But please bear with me for my being brutally frank)
The lady of the house is pregnant. The husband is deprived of his usual quota of sex. Assuming he is otherwise good, he longs for it. And now comes a younger (and in many cases a more beautiful) version of his wife. The younger lady is not that unwilling. Two plus two equals four.

Whom should we blame? First, the first wife. Second, your cousin. And third, his sister-in-law and finally, us. For we have been cursed to know about these disasters.
    thanks for the response, Lakshmi.
    regards,

    Hai,

I have seen a different version of the story. Our house owner had two wives and the two were sisters. He initially loved the elder sister, convinced her parents and got married to her. I believe she soon became pregnant and they aborted the child because they wanted some more time for themselves. Then when they actually started trying for baby again, after numerous trying, visiting various doctors / specialists, they found out that her uterus was damaged due to the abortion. There was no way she could become pregnant.

The first wife had three younger sisters. Now this guy was so desperate for a child that he told wife's parents that he wished to get married to their youngest daughter. When they said they do not wish to get her married to him, he simply told them that he would find another girl and get married. So these people got the youngest one married to him. Now he has three children from the second wife and all are living under the same roof.

There is a visible difference in the way the second wife is treated. The first wife is still given lot of prominence. She doesn't do any work at home - she can be always seen sitting on the sofa from morning till night. The younger one does all the work - there is no servant maid at home. She hardly talks, she gets beaten by him, her elder sister scolds her if she does any mistake. Altogether her life is pathetic.

In this case, I really feel sorry for the younger sister. And we have seen her suffering every day.

    Amitha
