Re: Who am I?

I live in Troy, Michigan with my husband and my 16 month old live-wire kid Guhan. I am a working mother striving to achieve a balance between home and work.

I was born in Thanjavur( my maternal grandparents still live there ) and raised in Trichy. I have very fond memories of both the towns. My parents later settled down in Chennai. Now, both my parents and mother-in-law live in Chennai, less than 10 km apart. My first job ( really ) took me places. I lived in Limassol, Cyprus for 4 years and was extremely glad to see the country figure in the 'Who am I' thread. When I was there, I had plenty of opportunity to travel in Europe. My stay in Cyprus ended after I got married and moved to Troy. I have been living in the Detroit suburbs for the past 5 years.
Though far away from home, I value and cherish our tradition and core values and try my best to adhere to them. I am very fond of both my maternal and paternal grandmothers and they( for that matter, most women from that generation ) are a constant source of inspiration to me. I was pleasantly surprised to see chitvish's posts in the spiritual and traditional recipe threads in this forum - because those are exactly the things I used to ask my grandma to write up for me in a diary. And fortunately, my husband shares the same values too.

I love to read, listen to music and cook in my spare time. But, these days I love spending time with my kid better.

-Gayathri.

Hello Kiran

Hello Kiran,

A warm welcome to you in IL. I am SumathiSundar in Saudi. We are here for the past 10 years, and I am having one son (22). Here I am living with my husband and my son is doing B.E. in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />India, I am frequently shuttling to Madras. He is staying alone and he will cook by himself. What to do?

You told about ‘the empty nest syndrome’, it will happen to us one day or another. First we will come out of our house and we enter into a new house and after that we, most of us go to another separate house, which we can call our own house. That is our house = our self, husband and children only. We will try to improve our house and one day or other all our children will leave us.

For higher studies/after their marriage. At this time we will fell the house is empty.
But we must not loose heart. We have to thank god that we are able to settle them properly. And we must be proud of ourselves, as a mother we did our duty. Is it not? Please cheer up.

Here you can spend more time and browse IL. You can make friends here and go
through the threads. Enjoy in staying IL.
