phishing online fishing.

online shopping became common thing now a days. For many reasons people choose it. From the past 2 years i am an active online shopper .from hair pins to wedges, from child diapers to party wear, from kajal to compact, from jeans to sarees . from ear phones to cell phones I think i have covered all the areas of shopping and i find pretty good reasons why to shop online only.

1.I need not be wasting all the day for the shopping getting ready travelling.
2. we need not be feel embarrassed to move to other shop if we don't like the product.
3.We can easily return the product if we don't like the quality or for any reason don't easily get our money back.
4. we can shop all the national and international brands of clothing and accessories and gadgets just sitting in our room.
5. Its the best way to send a gift to the dearest ones. just choose the gift and enter their address in the delivery address and it would be delivered.
6. we can browse thousands of verities on online sites.
7. even the prices are comparatively lower than the local shops.

After all this comforts we can find the frauds who want to take disadvantage of our trust on online sites and online shopping.It is called as PHISHING.

Phishing is to impersonate a business to trick the people and fish the personal and financial information. This way be in the form of email or a text message.
That will be in the name of a trusted website and asking you to click on the link to update your account or asking for the credit or debit card details .

so how can we avoid phishing:
1.should be using the trusted soft ware and updating it regularly.
2. should not be sharing the personal or financial like passwords, credit and debit card numbers information in the email or messages.
3. should be cautious about opening the links from the email.

so avoid the bait of the phishing scams and enjoy the festival online shopping.

Dear Surekha,
Very useful information.I have not done any 'on line shopping' though I am aware of all the advantages.It is a boon to senior citizens.
But in places like Chennai, where power failure is the order of the day, there are certain impediments.Sometimes in the middle of transaction power stops.My friend experienced a strange difficulty.Her debit card was debited,but the payment never reached the shopper.She had to run from pillar to post to get the amt credited back.
While shopping on line we may be deprived of shopping experience, the touch of garments, actual vision of the refrigerator,the exact volume ( length, breadth and depth) etc.I feel that certain commodities for which no scrutiny is needed can be purchased on line, and for other purchases of high value it is better to visit the shopping centre.If online purchases are cheap by 2% ( the value may be high if the cost is more),we can visit the shops once, have a look , and then order the goods on line.

Hi Surekha,
another valuable post from you. Online shopping is still not too dependable in India though it's the way of life here. Many brick & mortar stores have gone out of business. We still have some mix & match. Gather all the specs online and pick from a store nearby or go to nearby store get the look & feel and order online for some money saving. Sending gifts to India is where we don't have much choice but still there are few dependable websites.
Phishing is something one should be aware of not only in online shopping but in other aspects too. Once we got a request from someone known to us asking us to verify some company address. The company(supposed to have some New York address) had some Chinese website name and they had given offer for $120K to a fresh commerce graduate and have asked them to pay 50K Indian Rs to arrange for paperwork. People should think twice when they are asked to pay money. Anyway good informative snippet.

A useful snippet at the right time dear. As it is festive season we do lot of shopping compared to other days. Almost everyone is doing online shopping now-a-days at least once just for the fun of going through the experience. Thank you for the tips.

My family is a major online shopper. We buy even vegetables online from either Big Basket or Nature's Basket. Not a day passes without a courier ringing our bell with something ordered online. But still online shopping has not taken off really in Delhi. as can be seen by the massive crowds at markets to buy everything from sweets to clothes. True phishin is a risk but a little bit of caution can protect us.

Dear Surekha,
I buy books on online shopping and some gift items. Electronics and clothes...I want to see personally and have a feel of them before buying.
There are advantages. Men do not like to drive (more than driving, they are worried about parking spots). They don't have the patience to do shopping for long hours. At home they can be at the T.V watching some match and wife can do shopping on her own. It is heaven for them if they are not asked to accompany to shopping......they hate waiting near the trial rooms and answering wife when she asks if she looks good in it? Before answering they have to keep in mind what she is thinking!
So, it is a boon to them. I don't mind going on my own and do shopping.

Thank you @jayasala42 madam for your feedback.my first online shopping was for my kids diapers, as they give 15 to 20% of discount on them where are in the local shops we can get max 5 percent discount only. From their one after the other products were added to my online shopped list.

Yes we cannot get the live experience like touch of the garments and even some times the colour of the product differs from that of the pic should in the site. In such cases the reviews of the product by the other customers helped me a lot . They describe the cloth quality smooth and the colour difference and all the other aspects. Rating of the sellers help us to whether we can trust the product or not.

When coming to the high value items like refrigerators,tvs, air conditioners they have a delivery option only to one or two cities. so we can buy them in the local shops.

yes, @jskls phishing is not only threat to out money but also to our social networking sites like face book and twitter. We get mails asking for the password of our social networking sites so that they can miss use them we should be aware of this type of online phishing too .
