    Ouch, if someone calls me Madam they are in trouble (makes me feel like an old lady) :D

    I got contacted by one of my german colleagues, he was upset because did not use his title in the email adressed to him.

    YM, I have some cousins a couple of years younger than me who refer to me as "aap" and it sounds really strange to me! Am still trying to get used to it. :-D Some of my cousin bhabhis do the same so I reciprocate with the "aap", although we are quite close in age.

    Sometimes addressing someone with respect not necessarily be formal. Like I am so close to my dad but would still address him as 'Neevu' meaning neenga. Sometimes though we address people respectfully it need not necessarily have any love/respect associated with it. Though I am addressed 'Anni' (meaning Baabhi ) I know deep down that it's just a formal word with no love/respect. So respect with love only matters. Just my opinion.

    Dear Satchitananda,

    You have brought in an interesting topic to the fore.

    In earlier days husband was addressed as'aap' or neengal and wife was addressed as 'tu or nee.
    But now the present generation wives address husbands not only in singular but add'da' in many sentences. But I don't see boys addressing their wives as'dee'.
    Is it because wife takes too much liberty with the husband and the latter does n't.
    Addressing is different in each family as per customs/culture/ Does not seem to be related to the magnitude of affection/regard.
