People who made that video or people who was acted in it does not really understand ,what Women Empowerment is?.

Education,Safety for women itself considered greater problem in our country in that case these people are talking about EMA,Sex and dressing.

Deepika came out of her closet about depression and created awareness everything is right.but i don't think this video is sensible.

When Deepika speaks about her fight with depression people listen because she is doing it out of her own volition. If she gets paid to make a video, who listens? Did she get paid by vogue? That's my only question.

Btw, erstwhile vogue reader here. I don't read it anymore because of lack of time but I used to read Vogue India cover to cover and save articles and use their dress/make up tips. I love Vogue for the fashion magazine, I don't read it to get empowered. Vogue needs to focus on fashion and let others do the empowering.

having loads of trouble posting today..@laks09 exactly. there have been many who have tried hard to bring the same message in many ways, but no takers. the worlds takes notice when aamir khan hosts a show on awareness, and mental health. we take notice when deepika says something. so sadly we need celebrities to bring attention to a cause.forget the society, let us for example take il, how many really showed interest when @teacher started a thread on mental awareness in school. there were literally no takers. the stigma is high. we scream if somebody brands our kids, our loved ones.. there is so much fear about societal acceptance that we don't even want to go to a counselor. We need more people to talk about depression, a silent yet curable condition ..

@above. You are right. You need a celebrity for people to take notice of. But that's where celebrities have to take responsibility. Their comments, actions, justifications, etc does affect our society. That's why when anybody says that it's a matter of choice to have EMA and that somebody happens to be a celebrity than it creates an impact on society. We may say that people are smart enough to understand what is right and wrong. But I've seen people who are intelligent, smart but found them changing their views just because some celebrity said something completely contrasting to their views. And these people afterwards say that we should have an open mind. Agreed, but now when I think about it, is having an open mind means to start thinking what these celebrities are thinking?

It is made by Vogue, Deepika of course gets paid for it. She is the only recognizable face in the entire video.
Most of us commenting here are quite older and know right from wrong. I have seen a lot of teens, college girls sharing this video with a thumbs up, they get the wrong message and that is why it is important to condemn.

Deepika left Ranbir because he cheated on her, and they were not even married. If she thought it is so cool, she didnt implement it herself. How does their conscience approve to utter words that they themselves dont believe in?

    The last comment...about money...
I've lost count of the no of khans and other top heroes and other 'celebs' appearing in under-wear ads. You just need to watch the ads for a min or so to see the no of these 'influential' personas come and sell anything to us for money. Not that I'm saying they shouldn't, but some of the products they endorse does make our eyebrows go up. Wasn't it srk who said that he'll do anything to make more and more money or some such thing? This is kalyug. Responsibility seems to mean nothing to these people of influence. A small incident comes to my mind. We were living abroad (my son was born and raised there) , and we came back and settled in India. One of the first things my son commented was that 'India is about "l" mummy! People are always talking or thinking only about themselves and money only.' He was only 8 when he made that comment and we were in India only for about 2 months then.
It seems only money talks. And its appalling the no of educated working class are influenced by these false personalities.

It's kind of OK to endorse a product by celebrities. Yeah, you are right. Money does influence most of the people here. But when it comes to heavy issues like woman empowerment, you just can't take money and start saying anything the writer writes. You son is very intelligent that he understood the mentality most of the Indians. Most of the time it will be about career and money. And I don't think this mentality is limited to Indians alone. I think there are many people around the world with this attitude.

Facing your problems and coming out of them is alright. But depression is a mental illness and sometimes (most times) you can get depresses for no reason. For some one in the glamour world, where your popularity depends on your singledom /relationship status - it is going to be very difficult to come out in the open and talk about it.And be judged for it.

@Rohanj, when I mentioned ads, I didn't just mean the undergarments ones, but also the fairness ones, and few other such similar ones. Some of them don't even make sense. Coz I didn't want to sideline the thread, didn't go into the specifics. But, fact remains that deepika padukone's 'choice' was poor given the influence she wields. It screams wrong wrong wrong. And in the real world there still so many social evils - one of my best friends was killed for dowry, girl child infanticide, gang rape, etc,.. the list is quite exhaustive. These are real problems. In the light of these talking about clothing, s#*, etc, seems very petty and irresponsible. And this also IMO, applies to all the irresponsible ads the whole lot appear in.

    Just my two pence worth.
