In summary, this video is less of Women empowerment, and more of tips to do wrong doings and promoting infidelity :-(

On the day this video came out,Saina became world no 1 in Badminton. That is the kind of women empowerment we want to see, that's the kind of #MyChoice our little girls need to have. This video is being shared so recklessly by even adult women, they seem like ignorant brats themselves

    Exactly!!
Educating girl/women and making her self sufficient should be empowerment.

I don't like this video but I think accepting publicly that you suffer from Depression esp for someone in the public eye requires a lot of courage.. Mental illness is such a taboo and ppl just want to hide it under the carpet and trivialise it like its not there.. That is not right.. It is an illness like any other and requires treatment.. Ppl suffering from it are either made to feel like they are overeacting or mad and not many get treatment. She lost a friend to suicide due to depression and so decided to create awareness of this condition which I feel is a bold step..

Why do you think a man has to give women "basic human space and freedom"? The same right that a man has, a woman does too according to me.

I have not seen the video but she is not saying "extra marital affairs or pre marital affairs is right or wrong. She from what I understand is saying it is an individual's choice. What is wrong with free will? Again neither is she endorsing or recommending anything but free will to choose. What is wrong with that?

Seriously??? I thought force sex is illegal. Consesual sex is not. So if a man and woman want to indulge in a sexual relationship why should that be anyone else problem? Men do it and never get called names but women are. Why?

This video is badly made by Vogue. Its a fashion magazine, promoting itself. I dont have issues with it but with the adults who think its empowering! Its supposed to be poetic but I dont understand most of what she says there. Snowflake, universe?? I wonder how many people in India have seen snowflakes to appreciate its beauty!!:bonk As always the norm, this video has nothing to do with the majority of Indians. It caters to the few upper - class folks who will probably buy Vogue!

That said, I feel it was brave of Deepika to do that interview. Except for the interviewer who kept interrupting rudely and asking/saying silly questions and making ignorant comments, all the others esp the doctor had lots of valuable input.

In the Indian context, announcing to the world that you take medicines for mental issues is saying a lot. Depression can be deadly even if one doesnt actually commit suicide. The impact it has on the person and the people surrounding the depressed is deadly. Most people would think she is mad!! That's the kind of awareness and empathy that we have in the society. Trying to change that mindset with whatever small effort is admirable.

All that Deepika says in the interview is very real. I admire her mom for looking at Deepika as a normal daughter as against a celebrity and catering to her needs. Most celebrities indulge in cheap publicity and try their best to keep their private lives under warp. It requires courage for anyone to talk about depression and what it did to her, especially for a celebrity on prime media.

I definitely commend her for doing this interview. I do not know about others but I have saved the doctor's reference for future use. He is that good. His credentials are what I would look for in a psychiatrist for many Indians. For those interested:

I must now see this video that evokes such strong reactions.

But as a women are told again and again that your dress or your attitude or your lifestyle invites abuse/ rape/ or any other torment, I for one don't care some actress actually says my life my choice. From what I hear, my guess is it is for shock value. The bottom line is if a woman ( or man ) is doing something morally or ethically wrong, that is on their conscience. If it is wrong legally, law will take its course. But society should not be imposing all these restrictions on women.

Yes with freedom comes responsibilities and and if one is smart, one is not going to take a page out of Deepike Pudokone's rule book (or for that matter any other actor's of all people).
