Dear pman, Srama & other Ilites,

I am really inspired by Suryanamaskar which has tremendous benefits and impact on one's own health and body, both Physically and spiritually. I want to include this wonderful artform in my Fitness Regime. My goals is to build stamina inorder to do 108 Suryanamaskars by 1 year i.e March 2016.

Please join me and motivate me in this wonderful journey of seeking health, fitness and spirituality.

We can start with the number where we are comfortable.

Right now I am comfortable with 8 sets i.e 16 Suryanamaskars.

Iwill be posting my daily log here.

    Ladies,

My practise is going to be slightly different. I do Ashtanga, as I am trained in that. So I am going to post as Surya namaskara (SN) A and B. My goal is to do 5 of each every day. I hope this is okay with all of you. If not please let me know.

    March 26 - SN A 5
    March 27 - SN A 5 and SN B 2

    pman,

Thanks for raising this point, Initially I was in confusion that what makes 108 SNs, I assumed it is 108 RT+ 108 LT and how come people are able to do soo many...but after checking some videos, I came to know that they are considering it as 54 RT+ 54 LT. So, I thought we can achieve this goal.

As per my understanding 1 set of SN = 1 Right SN+ 1Left SN
    so 10 sets = 20 SNs

I am following your video for counting while doing the SN..It is really helping me to do SN without any distractions.

Srama, Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.

We are absolutely fine with that Srama, Are we eligible to do this? Can you provide us any video on how to do this Ashtanga Surya Namaskar. Is it advisable for us to do this SN?

    Swasha,

I think what you say is the same as what we see in pman's video. Let me use this picture to explain -

    sn.jpg

Pic no 4 says, right foot back and pic 9 says right foot forward. This certainly is one namaskar

In the next SN, you can take left foot back and left foot forward for the same steps ie., 4 and 9 - this will be second namaskar.

The idea is for both the legs to come to ashwa-sanchalana-asana (steps 4 and 9 are called thus) once in every namaskar.

I also liked the way it is explained in this video especially the pace and the breathing, How To Do Surya Namaskar | The Art Of Living Global though they say it is two sets that make one.....in which case it is actually 216 :hide: But most people seem to agree with what both of you have said and it is a good idea to stick to one method....it is all just numbers anyways.

Sorry to have added confusion by adding the link to the video. My intention was to show how it should be done and please note there is an error in picture no 4 from the explanation. The explanation is correct, not the pic.

PS: I will check with a couple of other yoga teachers and let you know if I hear different.
