    Hello Ladies,

For past few months, I warm 4 tablespoons of olive oil, massage into scalp and drench the ends in it, and keep overnight.

When I wash in morning (sulfate-free shampoo). I do this twice a week.

My hair is so soft, shiny, and the blackest black, and comes down to the middle of my back.

Now I heard that people apply oil to their scalp AFTER shower because it stimulates hair to grow even longer.

What type of hair oil to use? Is there any hair oil lighter than olive oil, or coconut oil. I'm concerned that my hair will look too too oily, but I really want to go for hair that comes down to my waist (I see so many Indian ladies with long, beautiful hair).

    Thanks!!!!

Traditionally we would use coconut oil (Parachute or Vatika).
Oil the hair before shampoo, wash off, then lightly apply oil again to dry hair. As long as you use just a touch it won't look too oily. We would massage a few drops of oil in the scalp, and then rub hands over the rest of the hair.
FWIW, I never blow dry or use heat on my hair. Also my two cents, but I believe 99% of good hair comes from good genetics, nutrition and proper hormonal balance (thyroid etc). So I don't fuss with shampoos, oils, products etc. I just use basic brands.

Olive oil works excellent for my hair. When i go out I use very less but if I am at home I drench my hair in olive oil and the results are fabulous. If you want light oil, use almond oil. it also works fine.

I use Argan Oil after Shampoo. It is light and doesn't weigh down the hair.
Also it protects from heat, if in case you are using Iron or Blow dry.

Ahhhhhhh, I just tried Amla Oil. It smells nice, and gives my hair a nice sheen. I also like the idea of Argan Oil ...... I keep hair away from Iron or Blow dry.

I started socking my hair in dabur amla hair oil over night from the past week. I will let you know the result after couple of month. Applying argon oil on dry hair keeps the hair less frizzy for me.

@Justanothermom stick to basic coconut hair oil or a home based oi. dabur amla or almond both have mineral oil only the ingredients list comes up with different names. remember if the oil boasts of non-sticky it is more mineral oil.

i was a fan of almond oil for sometime along with shampoos, until i started eliminating each of them for a time slot and observing the effects of weaning off. i definitely find a change in hair fall in my daughter. we now use herbal hair wash and hair oil..both home made..

and for more idea you can check this out..

I prefer plain almond/coconut/olive oil whichever suits you. or a mixture of castor/olive/almond i used this for hair massage after warming it up slightly. now i prepare this hair oil and hair wash powder not shampoo at home.

My leave in treatment is Pro Naturals Moroccan Argan Oil, part of the hair repair system I use. I apply it to the tips of my hair and 3/4s up my hair shaft but I do not rub it into my scalp because my hair would need washing everyday. My hair is very shiny (white/grey). This way I stretch the washing time to every 3 days. Too much washing strips the hair.
