    Re: Dhristi

    Dear All

We usually follow what Chitraji has given in to ward off evil.. Thanx for the Sloka mam.. thats new for me..

For child they adviced me to take some crystal salt (kal uppu) and suthify (hee hee) 3 times clockwise and 3 times anticlockwise and then put it a bowl of water allow till it dissolves and pour in flush.. Is this one way of Dhristi..

Again for babies "seer thatradhu" in public functions like marriages they advice to collect flowers from bride and bridegrooms garland "manamaalai" and then put in the bucket of water and make the baby bath in that water..

so many are there and quite interesting

    A clarification on Mahabharatha

    Dear all,

This day I had a great question! from my husband
"When Gouravas were playing gambling and won the Countries belongs to pandavas, after 13 years why didn't Krishna suggested the same idea to regain the missed countries?

As god Himself is with them who can do miracles he might have won the countries and chased Gouravas to vanavasa in a day.

    Why he didn't do it?

    Any answers?

    Re: A clarification on Mahabharatha

    Hi,

If u have gone through The Bhagavath Geeth, I think the answer lies there.
Pandavas too ahd their weaknesses, and I guess Lord Krishna wanted them to learn to overcome those by going the hard way and not the easy way, ie. by playing cards and winning back what they lost to Kauravas. The Bhagavath Geetha has lifes lessons explained in the simplest of forms I believe. And take our lives for example - As we are growing up, we get advices, not to do this and that. But how many of us pay heed to it? Most of us have done what we were not supposed to, and have learnt lessons from it, after having burnt our fingers.

    Re: A clarification on Mahabharatha

    Hi,

The whole Mahabharatha is based on the concept "Righteousness" i.e., Dharma. God will never suggest a path which is wicked. So is Gambling. Those who determine to follow the path of Dharma will never follow wicked deeds. They will bear all the sufferings on their way of following Dharma. So Pandavas were able to sustain the forest hood.

    Dear Uma,

Agalya is definitely a "Pathivratha". That is a different issue. She was ursed for the second time for speaking ill about Lord Rama who removed her curse with the dust of His feet.

The first curse was a hasty curse given by her husband Sage Gauthama. She was mistaken by her husband and thus she has to suffer.

Draupadi too is a Pathivratha. She remained virgin even after her marriage to Pandavas and for ever. Infact she herself was born out of sacrificial fire and not out of her mother's womb. She is both a mother and a virgin.

She saw her husbands in one full form that is Dharma.

<!-- start content --> Ahalya was the wife of Gautama Maharishi. The word Ahalya means without any deformation. Her story is mentioned in the Hindu epic Ramayana. After her adultery with the god Indra, Gautama cursed her to suffer tapas (austere penance); some versions of the story say she was made invisible or was turned to stone. She was liberated by Rama.

    Creation and marriage

Brahma created Ahalya as the most beautiful woman. All the Devas wanted to marry her. Brahma decided that whoever could go around the three worlds first would marry Ahalya. Indra used all his magical power to go around the three worlds, finally reaching Brahma to take the hand of Ahalya.

However Narada mentioned to Brahma that Gautama had in fact gone around the three worlds even before Indra. Narada explained that as part of the daily puja, Gautama went around the cow at his hermitage. On one of the days when he went around doing his puja, the cow gave birth to a calf. As per the Vedas, the cow at the time of bearing a calf is equal to three worlds, hence Ahalya must be given to Gautama and not Indra.

    Curse and liberation

Rama and Lakshmana first came across the hermitage of Ahalya on their way to Mithilapuri with Sage Vishwamitra. They inquired about the hermitage to the Sage who told them about Ahalya's story. He states that Indra tricked Ahalya into sleeping with him, but was caught by Gautama. What happened after this varies in different version of Ramayana.

    Ramcharitamanas

Tulsi Das's telling of Ramayana is known as Ramacharitamanas. Gautama cursed Indra to have marks of the female sexual organ all over body. Indra did severe penance toward Shiva. Shiva gave him the boon to convert that mark of female organ to that of eye. From that day Indra is called Sahasrakshan, one with thousand eyes. Gautama turned towards Ahalya and cursed her to become a stone. After this Gautama left the hermitage.

Later after several years, Rama and Lakshmana while going to Mithilapuri with Sage Vishwamitra saw this hermitage. They enquired about the hermitage to the Sage who told them about Ahalya.

Rama and Lakshmana entered the hermitage and saw the stone in the mud. Rama touched the stone with his foot. The stone changed into the beautiful Ahalya who had become pure and understood her sins, and Rama blessed Ahalya.
