We are a fortnight away from day marked for Love – Valentine’s Day. Well no harm in penning my thoughts about it I thought today, so here I am.

I know there is a loads of information on the net about this day on why it is celebrated, why it come to being, who and what etc., etc. I read them sometime back, and the only thing that I can now recall or know of it yes it’s a “Day of Love for Love” like the other occasions that we have on the calendar.

This time strangely I happened to recall how and when I discovered, got acquainted to this day. I was in school, my 10[SUP]th[/SUP] grade I remember where the only source for the outside world was the newspaper. And being a avert reader my eyes got hooked to some article about this day, next thing I knew I went to a stationary shop to pick a card which said “I Love you” , my brother accompanied me and cash given by mom. So you can imagine, none of us had a clue about this day, just to keep me pepped up I was allowed to buy a card. A mix of ignorance and innocence in all of us. Here comes the climax of this event…guess who I gave it to now?? To my best friend in class, I was in a girl’s school before you think it was a puppy love rush that I experienced. I LOL even now when I think of it now, my first valentine’s day and card with a girl of my age…now don’t start thinking…I presume the smart me probably knew at a tender age of 16 that “Love” is not just for boys/men. Years have passed with more and more exposure to the web world and media, what not. Things are different now definitely.

I strongly believe and always will that “Love” does not have to be cherished, felt, and expressed just that one day of the year. Say for instance we say or someone says “I fell in Love” – now did that person foresee it?? Did they even want it to happen in the first place?? I am sure the answer is “No” because I believe “Love” just happens…it can be anytime of the day or time, creepily with the person you least expected and detested too. Over the years I have seen Valentine’s Day come and go…celebrating it with friends in college, going out for lunch, movies to my first V day with my DH.

For me the word “Love” holds a different meaning, it is not about just saying “I love you” to the one you love, it is a word that commands respect, care, togetherness, wishing one well, trust, help, support. Love for me is actions…it is about expressing your feelings not just limited to your spouse or children, it is the entire family, your friends, near and dear ones. Love is togetherness at all times, whether there is a heated argument between two people or the waters are still. In today’s word, we are all preoccupied with loads of chores but my experience has taught me that “Time waits for none” and if there is something that my heart wishes to express or do I do it irrespective of all other constraints. Because I believe in “Better late than never” ….we come across people from different aspects of life, whether in office, at home and our surroundings. Making someone feel good or warm does not cost a dime. I am a person who lives and cherishes every single day, not someone who looks forward for a New Year or Birthday to do something extravagant in particular. Every day is worthy of all that I can make and use of it.

So if there is someone that you are yet to convey/express your feelings to go ahead and do it. That would be the moment of “Love”. Apologising for a wrong and seeking forgiveness also is an act of “Love”. Whether it your spouse, children, parents, siblings, friends…..don’t stop yourself from that one sms, email, call, meeting that could do wonders.

    Love and be loved……

Gosh Scorpio, You are so right why wait? It has been my practice for a long time to always pause and wish and catch up with friends, relatives, neighbors - all relationships in my life either on their birthdays or wedding anniversaries. I have a perpetual calender on my refrigerator and almost every day of all the months are filled. It always brings a smile on my face when I think of that person and stop, either call or send a meaningful heartfelt email on their special day. Thanks to this habit, I have gained some incredible friendships in my life!

Nice write, enjoyed reading it :)

    Dear Scorpio,

Your sting is so sweet, did u know that ? What a lovely blog this is. What u say makes so much sense, taht love everyday, live everyday, why wait for this day or that day. i agree with u.

BTW my second daughter is born on Valentine's day, so her husband will save a lot of money on gifts. HAHA

i have written blgos before on this subject time pass one. in one such blog, i had written, taht theatre owners can mint money on valentines day. Cancell the show, and sell the seats to couples who want ro romance in the dark, in AC comfort, and mint money. And charge a premium say 500 per seat per 3 hours, so that makes it a 1000 a couple, and it wil go housefull, with tickets selling in black.

HAHA. i get crazy ideas sometimes, and even if the couple is caught , can say that we came to see the movie, and they can play a lousy movie, jsut for namesake, to keep appearances what say ?

@Scorpio707 looks like you get periodically bitten by the love bug. :rotfl I never gave a valentine card to anyone before marriage. In Junior college, i used to skip college on that day. Just felt ashamed. In engineering college, rose day and valentine days used to be fun, getting cards from unexpected boys and sometimes getting disappointed of not getting one from expected ones (hey, don't get your imaginations wilder, just accha lagta agar woh deta (would have felt nice if he gave)). Following days went in teasing each other within our girly group. The unexpected ones that gave cards doing rounds near our classes and hostel to get a response. Was so much fun.

In US, i have seen kids in kindergarten and elementary schools are made to give cards to all the students. I think that the chocolate, cards, flowers, jewelry and lingerie industries have colluded to make this event big for selling their products.

Yes, love should be expressed as often as possible and as much as possible and not on a single day.
