    Dear Ladies,

After being diagonised with PCOS in India and a course of treatment in India, i had come to the US where my husband moved before me, with high hopes of getting pregnant. But unfortunately, i had not been able to conceive until now. We have got doctor's appointment already but they said our insurance (Aetna Choice POS II) covers only diagnosis, but not IUI or IVF.

I wanted to know if there are insurance plans that covers Infertility treatments (esp IUI) at least partially. Am very new to this, looking for help from you guys.

P.S: We live in Tennessee, he works for Cognizant and the insurance is through his employer.

@Keerthi88 I have seldom seen or heard of insurance covering infertility treatments. I hope someone gives you better direction. If this is your first appointment with doctor please do not go with predetermined decision of IUI. Chances are with treatments here you can naturally get pregnant. I have PCOS and now mom for 2. I did not do infertility treatments.

    Dear Op,

What ever the insurance plans offered by your husbands employer is what is covered for the treatments. Most of the insurance plans offered by the employers only covers diagnosis for infertility but not the treatments. unfortunately You have to pay out of pocket for IUI and IVF. Just an FYI you could be covered for the drugs for those treatments by the prescription plans offered by the Insurance plans through which you can save some money but you have call the specialty pharmacies if they accept your plan.

You can check if you get your own insurance through Obama care, and if it offers any options for infertility. Some states have an IVF mandate, though I don't think Tennessee falls under that.
Other than that, if you have employer-based insurance and they don't cover infertility treatments unfortunately you will have to pay out of pocket. Even the best insurance plans only offer partial coverage for infertility.
IUI is a lot more affordable than IVF. But first make sure whether you actually need any treatments. If you are young you have a more time and options.
Consult a good reproductive endocrinologist, not just an ob-gyn. Once you get the diagnostic tests done it will be more clear what you will need.

I suggest you go to healthcare.gov and look for private insurance plans if you do need iui or Ivf. There is a deadline of feb 15th to buy private insurance, if you don't do it then you either have to pay for services not covered by insurance or wait a whole year to buy the private insurance in December.

@Chitravivek, thank you for the insight. I heard about that too. I spoke to my friend now and she says the same thing, not to go with predetermined thoughts of doing IUI. I agree with you. I will just go consult with the doctor and get clear views about what could be done. Good to hear about the two kids :) gives me a lot of hope too.. Thank you for stopping by :)

Yes @sansan, they say it covers only diagnosis but not procedures. He says we are on a 90-10 for drugs, so i will try give Ovulation Induction a shot after consulting with the doc. BTW, do you have any rough idea about how much it is going to cost for IUI?

@Malstrom, hello, thank you for stopping by to share your valuable suggestions. I am an H4, and my hubby is on H1b. Does that make us eligible for Obama care?

Tennessee state laws quote that fertility treatments are mandatory, but i dont know if IVF specifically comes under that.

I have been reading about IUI day and night and i agree to what you say. IUI is more affordable than IVF, but no one gives me an estimation, it all comes in range like, 300-700 etc., If you have more information on that, please throw some light on tthis.

I am 27 and i have time, but we have been trying for three years now :(. Am going to a fertility center, so i assume that am going to a reproductive endo, and not an OB/gyn. I have PCOS, that is for sure, but am unclear about the next steps. Lets see.. Thank you again for explaining :)

It depends on the prices that are offered at the place you are seeing the doctor.Rough estimate i would any where between $1200 to $1800 for one cycle of IUI.( its just my guess it could be more or less) .Once you decide on having the treatments you can always check with your doctors office if they offer any package deals for IUI/IVF,because some of them do for fertility treatments. Good Luck !

I ll talk to my DH about the private insurance thing. Thank you so much :)
