Few days ago I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. I’m really worried very much. Any ladies here tried alternative medicines for Hypothyroidism.

Or can we manage Hypothyroidism with proper diet ?. I dont want to take medicines through out life :-(

    Hi Ankitha,
Reduce intake of cabbage and mustard. You would need to take the medicine through out the life, because after proper medication the TSH becomes normal and once you stop it it starts to increase gradually.

It depends Ankitha One of my cousins had hypothyrodism but surprisingly after pregnancy her levels were going too low with medications so doc asked to stop the medication completely and have regular checkups to confirm it doesn't come back.

    Hi Ankitha,
Please dont get depressed. Isnt it great we atleast have proper medication for the same? I got hypothyroidism when I got pregnant and after delivery my levels came back to normal. But after 3months though TSH,T3,T4 levels were normal my antibody test gave a high level of antibodies.
Indicating I will have thyroid issue if i dont take medication.

    Hi Rajinitk4,
Its great your cousin's thyroid levels got back to normal but please check with her if she had done antibody test too. As mentioned above only when my end suggested taking this test after 3months of delivery he got to know my thyroid level will increase gradually.

    Hi Ankitha,

Please take the medications as prescribed. Hypothroidism is easy to mange if is controlled by medications.Diet is important too, but for this condition, it is vital that you take the medication under the guidance of a physician. It is a very safe medication.
Once your TSH is normalized your doctor will keep you on a maintanence dosage.
Thyroid is an endocrine gland which controls how fast or slow all the cells in your body work. You don't want your cells to work slow all the time.Taking proper medicines will help you maintain good health, it will prevent you from gaining unnecessary weight and it will prevent complications in the future.By the way this is a very common condition and can be easily managed as long as you comply with your doctor's advice. All the best !

Hi Friends, I have decided not to take any medicines. I’ll continue like this. I’ll see what happens. Only 0.1 of T4 is less, T3 & THS are normal. I guess nothing will happen.

Not taking any medication will not resolve the issue. You will have to take the medicines are those are supplements for your hormones. Also if you are required to take the medicine entire life or not will be decided by your Antibodies test, if it is normal then no need to take entire if its in control.

By the way, how much is TSH, T3 and T4 ? How did you determine you have Hypothroidism?

    T4 is 4.8
    THS is 0.528

Doctor has told me to do one more test.
