The most uncomfortable piece of clothing I've ever worn was a nauvari sari (9 yard sari) coupled with a Maharashtrian style nose ring, with huge clusters of pearls, that dangled from my nose past my chin. My MIL made me wear it for a puja against my protestations. The sari with its unusual drape was so heavy and clumsy. It just made me hot and irritated sitting in front of the smoky havan kund. The nose ring felt like a giant spider crawling on my mouth. The entire evening I spent in it all I wanted to do was tear it off my face. Never again!

Gauri, did you wear it with part of the saree tugged from inbetween the legs to the back? When i was a young, i would do that with my mom's sari in front of the mirror. It was fun then, now i would be uncomfortable.

Yes exactly like that. :) I just don't care for that drape, and I was miserable in it.

    Bikinis top the list!
I feel like a grandma in my one piece suits or tankinis, but I am even embarrassed to see other women in two-piece, string bikini or less! It always seems like a competition for who can wear the least laugh1smiley!

I think I am a little strait laced :( I cannot wear something like that in public. Even if I had model VS model like figure, I wont be able to pull that look off. But I have seen women in 40's and 50's with awesome bodies very comfortably walking around. Just not for me :)

Oh yeah last year we went to Hawaii and I bought a one piece bathing suit and I was the only one (at least under 50) in a one piece :)

Hot shorts - i wore it upon insistence from my mil and husband for a trip to Thailand with my DH.. I did not attract any stares and my hubby said i was looking "hot" and "awesome", way better than even the honeymooners who were younger but extremely out of shape for any figure hugging clothes to suit them :-D Nevertheless, i am never comfortable in skimpy clothes so i don't think i am gonna wear it again!

It depends on the place and the suit.... Was very uncomfortable with a very beautiful party frock at a wedding in a hotel. Thought it was going to be a modern wedding as the invitation and the couple sounded so. But in fact, they staged a very traditional wedding, as the grooms' family was from village it seems. When everyone around me was with long-heavy saris and gold jewels, my look seemed as if I was the party spoiler. I even thought of changing my dress into a sari and come back.

The one piece bikini at anywhere out of my country makes me uncomfortable although I like it a lot. Specially whenever we go out for pools and beaches with colleagues, who are mainly from the west.

I once wore a salwar but it was too low that I had to hold it running to my house and tie it again.

Once I draped a saree myself and went to temple carrying my DD. Half way I realized that she has been pulling it and many pleats have come out. I had to manage them in my hands to walk home. It was a night mare. My husband was scolding me for wearing something which I did not know. I was cursing myself for this decision of wearing saree. After that incident I have not worn saree even once....
