Colouring hair with fresh henna leaves

    Has anyone tried colouring hair with fresh henna leaves? I started out 2 months ago with a gap of 15 days. It sure is very messy but the colour is unbelievable! It comes out in rich burgundy, no orange, no red. Stay on better and colours the tips better than powder henna.

    YES,I too tried(for my DH) fresh leaves and loved the very natural deep orange color.
    Its long back,our house owner had henna bush.So had no problem in plucking the fresh ones,once fortnight.
    Repeated application offers rich color.
    But after shifting from there,applying henna became a messy and tedious job to me,as I don't like the packed ones.
    Luckily Everest Brand worked well,and
    for the past one yr hunting for the same brand,company completely stopped the production it seems.
    Been to many products(banjaras,nupur,shanaz,etc),none upto my satisfaction.
    They give reddish tint,a dye effect.
    Last week landed on Biotique henna.

    Mixed with tea decotion previous night,applied morning.
    WOW,got back the natural dark orange shade.:)

    Heard from the sales women,there is Biotique shampoo that fixes the henna color to hair.
    Biotique Bio Henna Leaf Fresh Texture Shampoo & Conditioner with Colour.
    Dunno how far its reliable.
    But thought of trying...on DH's hair.:biggrin2:

    @ Yashikushi, thank you for replying and firming my trust in fresh henna. My skin is very sensitive so everything I use gives a reaction. Powdered henna used to give itching as it dries the scalp, even if used with amla/shikakai but fresh ones proved better. They give the just right natural shade. I was so thrilled that as it was a little difficult to pluck them from a public park, I stem grafted it in a pot and I may get fresh henna from my own plant in a year or so, until then I have to keep plucking when nobody's around!
    Long hair and sensitive skin, I have to be careful in choosing products, recently I tried Tresemme shampoo and conditioner in sachets. The results were unbelievingly awesome. You can feel that it covers your hair totally and gives a rich luster, volume and texture like silk. I have seen such a change over in ads but until now no shampoo proved itself on this scale. If you can lay your hands on the sachet, do try and let me know your views.

    i see. but i ve tried only powdered henna pack available in the market. its good. but i would like to try henna leaves.

    Hi Sabitha and Rudhradev, it is much simple. All you have to do is pluck the leaves and crush them in whatever available way, grinder/sil batta/mortar pestle, adding as little water as required for grinding. Keep it for an hour or two and apply on your hair layerwise. You can wash your hair after 2 hours. You can wear a shower cap or polythene bag while you have applied henna. Line a soft rough cloth around your cap running along your back of the neck, above the ears to the hairline on your head to prevent the run off/trails. The best thing to avoid trails is lying down for the initial period. It is a little messy but you will love the colour, for best results use Tresemme shampoo and conditioner. I do it fortnightly alternating with pre-ampooing with mustard oil massage and shampoo on the other fortnights. Try it and let me know your reviews. All the best!

    Myself - only home made shikakai.
    Medicated shampoo - DS
    Dove shampoo for damaged hair -DH(dunno why he is sticking to that product as theres ONLY some evidence on his scalp)
    So I can go for this Tresemme,hopping on the trust of DH on me.:yes:

    My mom loves henna. It's a natural hair conditioner and is really good for the health of one's hair. I love the colour too. Although my hair get a bit rough after usage but I've decided to add some oil to it before applying.

    No dear sabitha,
    I am in my forties and have a mix of more brown and lesser greys. When I color with fresh henna, the color keeps on darkening for the first three days and then stops and starts lightening. But during the first few days, I feel it appears that I have got my hair highlighted with commercial copper burgundy color as it is a mix of brown and burgundy. Afterwards, the copper sheen starts fading and the burgundy remains. Yet I can carry it for 15 days as I keep the in between week for preampooing and massage either with mustard or coconut oil.
    If you have more greys then you can try the overnight iron karahi/wok method. It comes out in a darker tint on the side of blackish or dark rust. Give it a try, I am sure it would work good.
