We often hear, "Take a diet of 1900 Calories per day" for weight loss, something like that.

How much practicable it is ? Are there any members here , who successfully used this Calorie Counting method and lost weight ?

Till today, in real life, I have not come across any individual, who has lost weight successfully by measuring his/her daily calorie intake precisely.

If you google, you will come across countless number of websites and apps, which will tell you, take this one for breakfast, that one for lunch, this makes this amount of calories and that makes so and so amount of calories etc,

After reading every such information , I get more confused, feeling that it is impracticable. :idontgetit:

    Probably I may be wrong.:bonk

Just want to find out some one here, who successfully measured their daily calorie intake.

(There is an article here by a member 'Coolblue' in the article section I read that , also viewed the youtube link, given there also. That does not give an account of how to calculate the exact calories )

If some one is there, who actually did this daily calorie intake calculation, please come on and tell us how. :help

Darmesh, for me counting calories is like asking me to counting the number of hair on my head!

Honestly, I don't know how people manage to do it. Neither do I understand the benefit of it.
A handful of nuts and a small piece of chocolate might count upto the same number of calories, but vary vastly in their nutritional content.

Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar says that we should count the 'PRANA' in every food, in every morsel we eat. I try to do just that.

Well I don't know of anyone who has lost weight with calorie counting. But I know lots of people who are obsessed with calorie counting and no in the many years that I have known them they have not lost the weight or maybe have lost only to regain in a few months time.

We all know the difference between healthy food & junk food, who has the ability to choose the right food @ right quantity will win the battle....this is what I believe & never tried to count calories through apps. ..

yes to some extent. I don't think it is possible in India. But yes in western countries. Calorie is mentioned almost in all food items. Here we can choose and eat foods based on calories (if we want to). Even if we think the mentioned calorie content may not be accurate we can restrict our self with 300 calorie food/item but calculate 450 calorie as intake.

When someone says "Take a diet of 1900 Calories per day", it is better to restrict the intake say ~ 1400 Calories. In case if the intake calorie calculation is not accurate balance 500 calories will take care the difference.

say for coffee (here in US)
milk 200 ml (2% fat milk) 103 calories
sugar 2 teaspoon 30 calories (15 calories each)
    coffee powder 0 calories
    total 133 calories

I have a friend who counts calories. She has always been fit from when I met her though she said that she used to be overweight previously (I know her from 10 years).

These days, she does not use apps much since she knows the average calories/nutrients in her usual recipes.

I don't count calories, but use apps sometimes, when I need to watch my protein/calcium/sodium intake. (I use the recipe calculator at sparkpeople.com)

Thanks for that valuable information. Is it so, that in every food stuff, the calorie content is printed on it ? In India such an information is not seen in every food stuff.

What about a bowl of potato-tomato gravy with three chapattis ? I mean this stuff is cooked in home.
