Feb 21st - Mothers Birthday (Pondicherry Ashram)

It was a long desire to visit the "ROOM DARSHAN" which happens only on 21st Feb and 17th Nov every year, where we are able to pass through the rooms and have a glance of the articles used by Mother. It is a treasure for eyes and soul, which should be seen atleast once in lifetime. JMO

We were fortunate this year and felt at loss for words to describe the maintenance, the systematic approach to manage the devotees so calm and orderly. Thanks to Maa, for her guidance.

As we enter a steady moving queue with the Predetermined time slots token issued to each one of us, we are checked for Mobile phones at the ENTRY POINT and are asked to switch them off, (they have been kind enough to allow devotes to carry the same as they come from even long distances and cannot be done away with it)

Though most of us sincerely do that, there are a few who do violate that after moving inside, that has made them check again (2nd time) before we are made to sit in BLOCKs arranged well ahead. Because of the few, all of them are being checked again which should have been our conscious doing at a serene atmosphere like the gathering.

Ashram School children aged around 15 are deployed with duties, one of them being if someone is using mobile phones - a check for the third time, These children did find some annoying characters who after seated in the BLOCKS wherein the wait is anywhere between 20 to 30 minutes, using Mobile phones for texting, speaking, seeing videos, checking mails...

What was more annoying is that 3 -5 same people out the crowd of 50 in a block were caught two /three times by these students (young boys) for again and again not adhering to the rules of switching of mobile phones, at last these boys were asked by the higher authorities to snatch their phones to the Volunteers' custody and given back at the EXIT point.

So, should those ELDERS not feel belittled before these students for repeatedly doing the same, even after three checking and warnings, what are those people's DIRECTIONS to the youngsters where ELDERS should be the role model to follow, to do as they like... and tune the students to disrespect Rules

Their Explanation (which I overheard) that it was something inevitable, don't you all, readers agree with me, if we cant switch off or keep away from the calls/texts why should we come to such gatherings at all.

Lastly my thought ... "Where are we heading with these Mobile phones which have become inseparable part of everyday life" should we not understand to use it judicially to only the needs of important conversations.

    Thanks for your patient reading..

It is really unfortunate that the adults who are supposed to be setting an example for children do not follow. I have seen this too and not just in temples or places like that but in schools and others too. Recently I was watching a play and as always we were told to turn our cell phones off before entering the theater and just before the play began, the director came in and said "I know all of you have switched your phones off or muted, thank you but I want you to make sure one more time because you don't want to be that 'one person'......" and left it with out further explanation! There was pin drop silence for two hours! I wish more people would understand and respect. After all they are going to these places for their inner peace.

    Sister Srama,

Thanks for stopping by to share your thoughts, Absolutely TRUE, wish everyone comes to a gathering be it a theatre, religious place or any gathering for a purpose and understand the priority.

I agree with you that people who go to satisfy themselves for inner peace, do follow their conscious, hope elders could set example for the youngsters.

    Dear Sakthi sis,

I think we as a race are an indisciplined lot. Forever wanting to cheat the system. There IS no hope for our country. I know I am being a pessimist but that is how it looks to me.

Enjoyed reading. Could not reply last night. Was unwell. Better now.

    Sairam,

    Dear Sister,

This reminds me a recent incident where my parents were ready to start for their Sabarimalai yatra from the place in which they carried Erumudi....the people (their group) were about to start in another 2-3 hours, my paternal uncle came their to send off my parents....he strictly told my appa (his own brother) to not to carry mobile with him.

He said "is this available before in our age, why are you carrying this even when you go for pilgrimage trip", my father accepted his advice and handed over the mobile to me immediately, though i felt upset for sometime then i realised the meaning in that.

Though it is unavoidable to leave when we travel, but then atleast not to use in the divine places...so as to avoid unwanted vibrations on the sanctum, as the temple and samadhi places of great people do have positive and healthy vibrations which we can not make utilise fully if we do such harm things there and it is a fact!

Thanks for sharing your experience to us.

    Dear Saisakthi,
There are some people who behave like this. Those who can't avoid using their gadgets in places like this should avoid visiting those places.
When elders are not following rules and had to be reminded the rule time and again it is very deplorable.

    Dear Saisakthi sister,

What you say is so true - If it is so important that they cannot avoid, then they shouldn't be in such a place which requires mobiles to be switched off ,not for others but also for one's own peace of mind. What is the point of visiting a temple when you can't observe discipline and decorum even for a few minutes? To be reminded so many times by youngsters (its a fact that in India,grown-ups don't take kids seriously)..what a shame!
