Happy to receive a feedback from you Racr. And thanks for the many likes that you gave to my posts / responses. There are always a lot of memories associated with few things and the beauty is that each of us have a different one there, though we might have been there in the same place at the same time. And the value for money - Ah! It hurts! No value for even a 500 rupee note these days. And you need one of it to buy vegetables for a week. Of course what's more to add is that, there is no value for many of the old timers and those golden virtues too.

Hopefully things will change and change for good. Thanks Racr. -rgs

    Dear RGS,

Those innocent line of questioning shows a clean heart with no hidden agenda. Your post brought some great memories of how I have to fight for a cycle with my dad. My brother went to school by bus and did not have a cycle. When I reached high school, I demanded that I wanted to go to school riding a cycle. My father finally relented to my request. But more than going to school with my friends, I enjoyed those secret trips to the nearby towns on a holiday without telling my parents. Even if I get hurt by falling, I never used to show or complain as those trips were unannounced.

I bought a brand new bike for my son after we got to the US when he was only 7 years old. I was supposed to teach him how to ride a bike. One day, I told him to get on a bike with a promise I would hold his seat from behind and run with the bike. But as soon as he got on the bike, he started riding it so fast, I could not cope up with his speed. I left my hand, he never looked back. He learned it in his very first attempt and my job became so easy.

    Beautiful post

Reminds me of my childhood ...I just used to love cycling ...I'd wait for hrs to borrow a friend's cycle and take a round...and for that I'd forget my homework completely

I have done some of the craziest things in life wanting to own a cycle...my dad had 5 daughters with me being the youngest and never had enough money to run the household...n I just so much wanted a cycle at any cost...I was tired of asking friends for rounds n one day decided to fast till I get my own cycle...didn't eat for 2 days(must be around 10-11 yrs old then) ....took a needle and thread and sewed the word 'cycle' on my palm....my parents were so angry with me and were trying to coax me into breaking my fast and stop the foolishness...but I didn't relent...n the final thing I added was crying inconsolably till they gave in....and finally my dad agreed n we got a wonderful 'black n purple' bike.....it has so far been the most beautiful material possession in my life.

I don't know how he managed the money but he became the 'best dad' after that :)...after few yrs somebody stole the cycle n I had the saddest day of my life....then my dad , knowing my love for my cycle, got me a new one for my bday ....a black n yellow coloured ranger....but my first one was my true love and I can never forget the happiness it gave me

I grew up, studied well n got v good job....now I have all the money to buy what my heart desires...but that memory of my struggle n the the bike i got in return beats everything hands down....

Thanks for bringing back the memories of those beautiful days

    Dear Viswa,
Very glad to know about your childhood experiences associated with cycles. Yes, I have to admit that I had tougher time learning it and find my kid doing it all so easy these days though his is a smaller one and he starts at an age, where anything is possible [referring to that mindset and the attitude that nothing is impossible]. I know that you have been a mentor here, so no surprises in seeing a start student learning it in first attempt. Kudos to both of you. And to me, it seems that you practised non-violence at the age of around 14 perhaps?

    Thanks for your feedback. -rgs

It is my turn to say "Thank you!", LuckyMe, for a beautiful feedback. I am very happy to read about your early achievement and felt sad too, knowing that you lost that first cycle of yours! Whoa! Stitching in the palm and fasting at that age? That would have melted all the resolve that your parents had then! And shows the intensity of your desire too.

Wish you to get many more goodies without going to that length to suffer, LuckyMe.
And of course, all these memories are a rare treasure that we look back and cherish from time to time. Thanks again. -rgs

    Dear RGS,

Lovely Post!! I have become quite nostalgic now... I used to rent cycle for an hour for 1 rupee when i was 9/10 years old in madurai. Once my dress torn as it got into the back wheel and i was very afraid to go home. But somehow got escaped from mom's scoldings luckily.... My father and brother taught me to ride cycle by taking me to open grounds initially... it was all most memorable moments...

I really envy your talent on capturing life's ordinary routine things as a remarkable writing. In that I am no exception to many other ILites here.I also see you as an emotional person from your writings which i feel as a great quality one should possess..

I always marvel at the way you write poems as a response to other's snippets/posts in no time.
That too as a perfect gist of their posts.

Is there any specific reason for your single word titles which i often see for your snippets?

    Happy writing!!

Thanks a lot for such a nice feedback and a ton of appreciation KarthigaS. Happy to receive a first from you here. Besides, happy to know about your experience too. Cycling was such a common pastime then that almost all of us would have gone through that phase [cycle!] and have definitely some fun moments to share. And perhaps those moments when we were more confident about ourselves, right from learning to sit, stand, run and get used to something new, are unforgettable.

Coming to your praise, I feel a bit shy. Life is all about finding a meaning for me, every now and then. In what is seen as mundane set of tasks, lie our own gems, covered a bit. And if you unravel them, you find it lot more interesting. Thats my point of view. I should honestly admit that I am only trying this of late and finding something that would last - for long.

Coming to your question on titles, I intended to keep it straight and simple, and not often I get success in that. ArunaRC has already written to me more than twice about choosing a right title, in the Poems section. Nowadays, I try and keep something that hints what it is all about and if possible, adds another angle, that I always strive to keep along with the main course of narration, which very few pick up. In this thread, the heading and the narration also talks about the cycle of events, as I grew up. And not all my titles are one worded. There are many which may not fit this too.

And writing verses come easy for me [though it might always be along the similar lines and boring to read, which I admit]. Thats why I am posting a lot in Poetry section [both tamil and english]. When I respond to someone's post, I keep it closer to their narration and at times try adding a point or two. Nothing more. Thanks again for your detailed appreciation KarthigaS. -rgs
