I still have a feeling the zoo coupon has something to do with the events. The coupon is like a MacGuffin.

No, that is not the latest item in the McDonald dollar menu.. it is the latest term I learnt and mighty proud to use it so soon. English matters. :)

I guess you were eager to put to use the newly learnt term and should say you put it to "good" use as I learnt it around the same time as you, in the same class :thumbsup
Just making sure that you aren't saying there was a Zoo coupon indeed :coffee

For those who didn't join the class ....

In fiction, a MacGuffin (sometimes McGuffin or maguffin) is a plot device in the form of some goal, desired object, or other motivator that the protagonist pursues, often with little or no narrative explanation as to why it is considered so important. The specific nature of a MacGuffin is typically unimportant to the overall plot. The most common type of MacGuffin is an object, place or person. However, a MacGuffin can sometimes take a more abstract form, such as money, victory, glory, survival, power, love, or even something that is entirely unexplained, as long as it strongly motivates key characters within the structure of the plot.

The MacGuffin technique is common in films, especially thrillers.

No need to read small letters. Story is well captured just in capital letters.

Ri - you had me in splits over this. :rotfl:rotfl

I did not understand where that zoo, capitalization (yeh yeh - I'm following the trail), receptionist's smirk and LODGE fitted in the entire story. As everything is covered, doh, I arrived just in time for the verdict - 'who is gullible'?

    Dear Trueloveseek,

Why would you not move to an apartment complex nearby your office rather than staying in a lodge for a year?

Is that your opinion or hers? Even if she is naive and innocent, you should have told her that he is only a look alike and not her cousin.

Who told you that? Why would American residence or citizens make friends by getting a discount coupon for a zoo?

When in doubt, generally, people don't answer the question. You know that people understand the nod only one way.

If there is a break-in, she would have done something about it or if it is a crime. I don't think she could do anything other than telling you not to worry.

You should be the person confronting this Indian guy and not the HR person.

I am not sure what you were trying to convey through these three lines. What makes you think that women are naive and gullible when unknown men approach them? No women is naive and innocent not to recognize the danger around her from men. Your eyes were opened to what reality?

Honestly, you have put her in this position. You should have moved into an apartment of your own especially when the assignment is for one year. Secondly, you should have never assumed that people make friends by giving free discount coupons and thirdly, you should have confronted him right after you heard it from your wife in front of his wife. Whether it is a new country or your mother country, these situations will have to be handled quickly to avoid any future problems.

You have as much, if not more lessons to learn out of this incident than your wife. Your recalling this incident after 5 years gives an impression that something is bothering you. If you have BELIEF in your WIFE, please put your MIND at rest and get on with your LIFE. Don't stay in a LODGE for a prolonged period of time with your family in a new country. Don't assume a person who just said "HELLO" to be a cousin. Be sympathetic to your wife who is "DAZED/CONFUSED/AFRAID" not only by taking firm actions against those who caused it but also by not recalling the incident after 5 years. In my opinion, your EYES should be opened to this REALITY.
