I mean why didnt it start as wives are Godess and husbands must touch their feet. What is so special in male species that there are rituals around them?

Or may be it was some science in it as bending is good for a person, Uttanasana..which is good for a women...and as usual, we have misunderstood. Shatra;s have always been bent towards women....whatever has happened to true meanings...

The question here is not why not...the question here is why..

i just explained that in my previous post, i think you didn't read it. there are such rituals for both men and women.

and yes during navratri or wedding celebrations, there is a ceremony called by different names in different cultures, maharashtrians call it 'savashin', and gujratis call it 'goyini' where basically some married women are honoured, and then everyone including all male members of the family who are even years older than them touch their feet.

i think religion treats men and women equally.

I cannot think of a single religion that is not sexist (women are discriminated against). Just look at nuns and monks in any religion. Males get better treatment, every time. Most religions will not allow females to occupy highest religious positions. Even Buddhism, which tends to be a little more compassionate than most religions, does not treat its female "servants" of God equally.

This is because most religions, if not all, are products of their time (when the scripture was recorded). And in ancient times, most societies discriminated against women. It is sad that we carry these customs forward today despite knowing better.

I don't touch anyone's feet, and I don't want anyone to touch my feet. Gestures of domination/subjugation make me very uncomfortable.

Here is my take on this: If a reference to scriptures/epics/traditions is mandatory to make an argument, in my view, that argument will not stand the test of reasoning/logic.

I have no desire to develop in-depth knowledge of other people's traditions. But I will not disrespect them. That is the most I can do. Unfortunately, I cant change myself to other people's expectations that are based on ZERO reasoning.

I read mythology and books, over and over again. I enjoy reading them. They are written beautifully. That does not mean that I will follow them. Regarding touching the feet, if any one has rational explanation, I am more than happy to change my viewpoint.

I have stopped touching her feet altogether and I can see the disbelief and shock in her every single day however, I resolve to stick to this stand. I don’t want to go into the religious literature and citations from past as I will now do what I feel doing. That’s it! Also, as some of you stated that respect is earned and not commanded so upon confrontation (which is not likely to happen as it’s been a few days now), I will tell her point blank that I believe these traditions only make a relationship more formal. Even her mamiji visited a few days back and I never saw touching her their feet every morning. Her son in law visited and he touched her feet only once when he visited. I have enough examples as well but the point where I fail is when my own father upon his visit to my place openly showers countless blessings on my bhabhi for touching his feet. This is the domain where I am helpless. My bhabhi loves to do this thing and my parents have enjoyed this for last 4 years.
