    Hi Ladies,

For the past 7 years I didn't eat non veg items (due to personal reasons). Last 2 days back, I started eating chicken. It was home made by my friends so I tried it. My hubby asking me to continue till delivery as I will get extra strength. Question is, in USA I have never tried non veg before. However, am not going to try chicken burgers/subways. I would like to try chicken nuggets and strips.. can you please tell me what other items are good to try during pregnancy?

Please let me know if I can try above items for my 4yr old?

Anitha, personally, I don't like chicken nuggets and strips because a lot of the time, it is processed meat (that is, not pieces of whole chicken cut from specific parts of the bird, but re-constituted meat). I am suspicious of meat that comes from multiple sources, that is pulverized, tenderized, treated with chemicals, and then mashed together, breaded, and fried.

Therefore, I would recommend you make a point of eating real chicken meat (e.g. chicken breasts, thighs). The other option is to only buy good quality, organic chicken strips and tenders (Bell and Evans is the BEST, I think) because you know the meat is sourced and prepared properly. Of course, organic chicken is more expensive.

I don't think anything would happen to you or your child if you ate the strips/nuggets from the fast food chains, or bought the cheaper nuggets and strips in bulk from your grocery store. I just think they don't taste very good.

The other thing you could do is make your own. Here is a recipe I use, because I like panko breadcrumbs (you can use regular breadcrumbs if you wish).

Crispy Panko Chicken Strips – plentytude

I also add spices (curry powder, or red pepper flakes, or hot sauce) which makes it taste a little better. If you don't want to dip the chicken pieces in egg, you can substitute buttermilk or beaten and thinned out yogurt for this step.

Thanks a lot for the timely info Ansuya.. Yeah, we're planning to make it at home and eat as am also not much comfortable in buying it from outside.
