Jewish boys get to have a Bar Mitzvah....and Jewish girls also have a similar party. It's downhill from there if you are Orthodox but just a really good time if you are in the more liberal sects.

Tina, I was under the impression that the Bat Mitzvah was independent of the actual start of menstruation.

It's hard to pinpoint onset of puberty, though I'd imagine no young boy would want to sit at the center of a loud party celebrating his first wispy facial hair, breaking voice, or nocturnal emission!

(Tina, you and I now hold the dubious honour of having mentioned farting and nocturnal emissions in a single thread. IL history has been made)

Tina, thank you. in the ideal situation i have bought a huge teddy bear (my daughter loves them), that had a big card, saying you are biologically a woman, a new milestone in your life, yet we know you still love to play with teddy bears, and you can go on being our baby girl.

the same. it has the same effect on men, though intensive studies are done only on the women. It is not plastic alone, it is the hormones that are injected into chicken, cows for better yield. there is a ingestion of substances that are mimicking estrogen or triggering the earlier menarche. the average is falling faster tina. but the alarming rise in infertility, PCOS,PCOD and other related conditions are because of our abusing our body directly/indirectly, with awareness or ignorance. there is a whole lot of change out there..

estrogen levels are found in men too and what is the impact on higher levels,is lower testosterone levels.

Definitely say this thread has been a enlightening one with regards to puberty.

Riya, it is not attaining puberty that would be an embarassment or pain. it is the publicizing of the milestone. i think you have misunderstood what i meant. i meant it from the point of the child. imagine a 8/9 year old girl, who still would not understand what is going on in her body, being made to wear a saree, sit in a chair, and being handled by all females (known/strangers) along with other men giving their blessings. the boys she played with making fun of her..it would be a embarassment to the child.

Thanks love. because i write it from ground zero so to speak watching how men behave around. am i making a little girl prey by announcing it on boards/poster that she has attained puberty is my ???. nothing more. it is again a pov. i know people may ask the ones who misbehave do it with 2 month/60 year old..

AGain maybe both our pov differ on this.. let us agree to disagree.

Ansuya: they use an arbitrary? traditional? age of 13 and thus relieve various kids of actual dates. Perhaps that is why it works well.

Shanvy: so your take is that it is a redflag to female abusers? Interesting and scarey thought.

going by what is happening today, to an animal if you were to tie a saree to a bamboo stick, he is still going to search for the *****.....(sorry mod could not put it more subtle..). in fact many people have stopped announcing this to their close friends too, i know a friend who said, my daughter is 12, by now many would have guessed she has started her periods, i am not going to announce it to the world. i will tell my parents and in-laws, because they are important part of my daughter's life the rest of the people it is immaterial.

Yep! Read the same somewhere! Cited as one of the reasons why there is drive towards organic produce.

Share the same feeling for all the contributions here! I wish more discussions here at IL follow the path of reasoning and delve into history, root or evolution of entrenched or fading practices to have a better understanding and not picket around as non-productive rambling.

Though I missed Soks links/homework this time!
