    Hi Aadhusmom,
I am not sure where you got the information about US C sections rates are very high or same as India.... I get every month the NEWS letter from hospital and it shows mentions the ratios of natural birth to c-section.
I am sure, how you found flaw in my "facts".
If you have problems in accepting the harsh facts, sorry I can't help it.
    The truth is always bitter.

    Regards.

    Puni,
I really didnt want to turn this into a debate. But seems like I have no other option. The C-section rate in the US for 2004 (2004 C-section rate is all-time U.S. high at 29%: medical, legal, and choice issues combine | OB/GYN News | Find Articles at BNET.com) is over 29%. The rate for Madras (as per a study done in Madras High caesarean rates in Madras (India): a population-based cross sectional study) is 32%. The overall rate for India is probably lower as the study was done in an urban setting and the rural C-section rate is considerably lower than the urban one. Another stud done in teaching hospitals puts the figure at 25% A critical appraisal of cesarean section rates at ...[Int J Gynaecol Obstet. 2002] - PubMed Result
The C-section rate in the US for 2007 btw is expected to be over 30%. Why the National U.S. C-Section Rate is Rising | Cesarean Section :: Childbirth Connection The WHO recommends an ideal C section rate of 10 -15%.
I am not interested in finding fault with the US health system and I will be the first to admit that ours has many flaws.
I dont think you understood the reason behind my post at all - I only asked you not to brand all doctors as greedy. But you have obviously made up your mind and I dont see any point in continuing this.

Same here Aadhusmom... Even I didn't wanted to agrue with you or anybody over here... we here to post what we feel and not to offend anybody... but looks like you are over reacting to the posts and getting into arguements...
I am not here to say whether India is best or US is best or any other country.
Having delivered twice here and first one I had c-section after having labour pain for 38hrs and with epidural 14hrs... here is the Govt rule that until there is no compulsions for c-section, the doctors are not supposed to do the c-section and it would make the hopitals to get rated down. And if doctors doesn't give the appropriate reasons for c-section, the insurance also won't pay for delivery.
And for the second time, even though it was scheduled for my c-section, I was dialating faster and ended up for normal delivery.

I guess, just by one years survey or report we should not conclude anything.

You are not understand my point here... I have clearly said that, doctors won't go for the c-section at first shot here... this is my whole point as I mentioned the same in my previous posts also....but you are dragging me into all sorts of arguments.

PS: Sundari Maam, Sorry for hijacking your posts for argument here.

    Punitha,

Newsletter from where? your hospital.. the "one" hospital in the whole of US of A? and you say thats the fact to represent the entire statistics of USA? You should be kidding Big LaughBig LaughBig Laugh

Your hospital's rate is different.. OK so what? that doesn't change the fact that C section is on the rise... Please don't suggest something without any proper facts. Do you know the whole stats of USA or for that matter India or any part of the world. If so, why not give the link of those published papers here... And that my dear is a bitter truth and fact Big Laugh

As I have been saying in other sections, there are bad mushrooms everywhere, not just in medical field... Unfortunately.. it will be our ill luck if we fall into them... But branding that one country is best over other in this matter is stupidity.. There are lots of factors that gets involved here.. Not everyone is getting knocked up nowadays at 22 and giving birth. Women are taking their time[more the age, more chances to csection, thats a medical fact] and many dont want to go over the pain and what not in their vagina.. They want to have a easy way out.. And apart from these reasons, you have the severity of the situation in that table..

For a fact I know that out of 60 hospitals in NJ.. more than 3/4th of them have high rates of C section... I don't get any newsletter from all these hospitals...Big LaughBig Laugh but it was a documentary that I saw once in the local channel... I guess you need to come to terms that anything can happen anywhere and you cannot brand a particular country to be so noble of everything.

    my 2 c.

    Hi Nandhu,
Please before posting anything, could you please again go thru the whole thread to get full information.
I am not saying that my hospital is the whole of US of A or anything.

My whole point of saying was.... in US, the doctors won't do the c-section at the first spot.

As I said earlier, I am not saying anything more here...
If you could understand my point is fine else forget it.

If you don't get any newsletters is not my problem here.... as you wouldn't have visited the hospitals or got admitted.
I just don't do google search and post it here..... so there is no need for me to come to any terms here for branding any country is good or not bad

I need not have to worry for falling ill luck or anything, I am finished my part of the story about pregnancy and delivery

    Regards.

    Hi Friends!!

I totally agree with Adhusmom and Nandhu that we should not brand any country best over another. All kinda people good/bad are there in every profession. But there could be other reasons also of rising rates of C-section. Like Vidhya has pointed about celebrities, Nandhu has pointed about women who dont want to go through the pain of delivery and want an easy way out, I want to say in India also if you have a good doctor s/he would wait for a normal delivery and would cut you open only if some medical complication arises. And according to me one reason is also there which is most of the today's woman dont do much physical exercises during pregnancy which is utmost important during pregnancy as a result at the time of delivery their body doesnt respond the way it should respond on the contrary in Indian villages where a married woman has to do a lot of physical work seldom even go to a hospital for delivery which is a drawback also. Here I am not saying all modern women are lazy and dont do physical work much but many are like that they just stay at home and watch TV.

I know about 4 deliveries in my family first my sister's, which was an emergency c-section because her water broke and she didnt know what is happening so they didnt informed doctor on time and till the time they reached hospital doctor said they have to do the c-section because no water was left inside. And other 3 were completely normal deliveries.

    V n baby

    dear friends,

here what puni is trying to tell is, in US, medical system is different, docters have to get money from insurance company not from patient directly, and insurance company investigates and asks questions to docters before giving them, so docters have that in mind and treat patient accordingly, they wont take patients for granted and make all decisions for them, if c-sections are on rise that means patients health was so,

in india there are many good talented docters, most of them dont even bother to give choice,

i delivered my son in india, had normal delivary, withuot docter, she came to do episiotomy after tear, dint even bother to tell what was she doing, she kept me in her nursing home for 11 days telling baby has jaundiceWitsendno blood test was done.

my daughter was born in US, had normal delivary, docter explained
everything before of all possibalities, and baby had jaundice blood test was done everyday, sent me home 3rd day.

in indis she kept me in AC room 1200/rs per day, only and only and only for money sake, i get tears in my eyes if i remember how difficult it was for parents to take care of me [food, travelling to and fro] for 11 days.

no offence, its my experience, in US that would not have been possible.

    regards, sweta kiran
