Hello All,

We may be moving to Miami soon as my husbands head office wants him to move there from the UK.We have stayed in the UK for nearly 12 years and this would be a big move.

It would be good to know the best areas to live for an Indian family.I have a 7 year old daughter. Can you please let me know of the best areas with good schools,less crime and of-course near the beach as well.

My husband has visited Miami a couple of times and felt it was more Spanish than American.He was surprised that he couldn't spot one Indian anywhere near his hotel or in the mall .

His office is in kendall area so any decent and good areas closeby would be great.

All your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Miami. You'll love the weather here after being in the UK
There is a greater Indian populace in Broward County (which is north of Miami Dade County), so you may like to look up the West Miramar and Pembroke Pines areas as well (though it would increase your commute to Kendall). Being near the beach often works out to be very expensive and you are more likely to get a bigger bang for your buck by living about 8-10 miles west of the beach. Plus, the schools by the coast are usually not as highly ranked as the ones further west. You can look up GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community for more information on specific schools once you have narrowed down on schools. On the whole, schools in Cooper City and Weston are considered to be very good. The schools in Pembroke Pines and Davie are also good. Sorry I do not know much about the schools in Miami-Dade, but you'll probably see more diversity in Broward County...Miami does have a pretty heavy Latin American influence.

There are several classical Indian dance and music teachers in the area as well (though most are in Broward County; I teach Bharatanatyam, but am based in Broward County). You could look up teachers at http://chandrakantha.com/teachers/teach_music_florida.html

Thank you so much Chitmin for a comprehensive reply.Very helpful and much appreciated. I am happy to stay anywhere which is pretty safe with good schools and not necessary by the coast. I guess I will look at the areas you mentioned.
