It happens only at In-laws's house

When I had a scheduled C-section ( due to medical reasons ) my FIL was so SURE it was a BOY, that he found a tiny slot of time which was extremely auspicious and lucky for a boy child, and extracted a promise frm my Gynaec (!!!) that she will cut me open and cut the umbilical cord within that time!!

Guess what? It was a girl, despite all his astrology, and is quite a lucky girl at that !!

 

Another gift saga from MIL. MIL's co sis had called us to her place, where we had travelled for a function. She asked to us to take rest with the kid and cooked for us, while she had to go to the fucntion, and we were late and decided to attend it the next day alone. She gave us good treatment and was nice and gave us dresses while we left. I showed to MIL in her presence, pat came the reply it should be cotton, satin does not suit Chennai weather. Poor lady had selected good color and texture but was upset on the comment and tried to explain that the frock had a cotton lining, but MIL kept repeating it and I wanted to say oh give a break, but couldnt

 

1. MIL can wash 4 spoons,4 plates and 4 glass with one drop of liquid detergent and still she calls herself hygienic.I go and wash my dishes again.

2. no need of serving spoons while serving dry dishes or rice,,,,damm!!! God has given you two hands.MIL use her fingers while serving rice yucckkkkkk!!!!! :spin
That day i don't eat rice.

3.Don't use paper towel if you have plenty of them.Why to waste paper towel for cleaning purpose.After cleaning she never throw it she keeps the paper towel and reuse it till it doesn't get disappear from her hand.:drowning

4.MIL think as DH is earning and bringing bread at home.So its my duty to do everything for DH and his family.DH money is their money but not mine.Once DH said to me i am thinking to give you i phone.As he knows i don't have expensive stuffs with me.I said O.K.PIL's interfere and said yes beta buy for her too....see how big heart my son has.It happened so many time. This time i come straight and said to my DH this is my money and i have given you hold on my money,,,Go and buy whatever you want to.I'll never stop you.See how big heart i have!!!!

5.DIL should not wear jeans,sleeveless,don't do make up.After reaching to U.S she went for shopping,,buyed pants,capris,tops,lipsticks,nail polish,lots of olay skin products.hair dye.But for DIL its prohibited.Now i wear sleeveless top in front of her.She hates that and looking forward to buy one

 

Do u think DH listen to anyone when it comes to their parents or sis....mother and daughter duo cry for each and everything and get the things done...

jaanu143, how do you keep yourself calm when your hard earned money is being spent on lavish gifts to people who are taking advantage? Agreed that its your H's sister, but shouldn't she give respect to both her brother and you? Can they just say, my brother's money so I can ask for anything...

When I think multiple times before buying some necessary item for myself, I would absolutely hate it if some undeserving person gets expensive stuff with our money without a second thought.

My mom used to force me to buy lavish gifts to cousins from my mom's side without understanding that I am not growing money on trees here. I love to pamper my own sister, but to go overboard and buy iphones to cousins when I am using a dumb basic phone... is a bit much. Everytime I used to give some reason, and buy affordable gifts (like ipods, handbags, etc) for cousins. no point in giving gifts grudgingly, right!

 

@Visasri..During my first delivery my DD was in distress so it was an emergency c-section. this same lady shouted my DH and my mom for cutting me open.. now for my sis everything was going fine and this lady want to open her up because of astrology :rant ?? I don't know how I m going to be patient when I see her in 2 months.

 

I agree with u...I too hate giving gifts beyond limit and to a person who doesnot know to take care.......After repeated trails now my DH understood its going beyond budget....So he himself is cutting the list...He asked me to take shoes for my dad or brother...
Me - I will take nice t'shirts for both , a clutch for mom . That is enough and no need to take 2-3 gifts to each person...
Dh - Then i will take shoes to dad's frnd....Dad told that he liked the shoes last time i took for dad...
Me - Do u have any sense , i am cutting the cost for u for my family mems , and u want to gift some outsider...There is a limit and u have to draw a line...

After coming home he made a list and cost estimated....By seeing that he understood wat i'm saying and started shortlisting....One of his cousin asked for sony headset with mp3 players , Dh started saying then his younger bro will feel bad and we will gift one more....I gave a very serious look that i am ready to beat and he said "ok...we will not"

 

i also only buy things for the first circle of my family.. thts my dad, mom, sisters, kids, bil.. sometimes i dont buy for mom and dad but only for sister's kids and little sis.. but my DH!! he will buy for BILs kids (that's fine), cousin's, cousin's grand children, all aunts (MILs sisters), etc etc.. the list just goes on.. and if i say anything, he will say i used to always buy for them.. and i'm thinking, but we cant afford tht much expenses!! :rant

 

In my so-called family we are supposed to buy for MIL, FIL, SIL & her family, SIL and her family & SIL & her family! SIL's family means - her baby and her hubby!
