    Hi,

I am planning to buy a microwave idli maker for occasional use to prepare quick breakfast / tiffin for kids when short on time.

Those who have used or are using microwaveable idli makers, please pour in your reviews/suggestions on:

    * how does it compare to the conventional cooking methods (pressure cooker, steam cooker)
    * do the idles come out as soft and fluffy as they do when cooked in pressure cooker
    * I also plan to use it for kids' tiffin so will the idlis remain soft until their break time, which is a gap of approx 4 hrs after preparation
    * pls give recommendations of good brands

    Thanks a lot!

This is what I am worried about. I was keen on buying one so that I don't have to spend too much time on their tiffins on days I want to send idlis but not so sure now...

    Thanks :)

    Hi,

I have never cooked anything in microwave either...I just use it to heat or reheat food and stuff.

To be honest, I heard of microwave idli maker just a few days back and was thinking of buying it to use mainly on days I want to pack idlis for the kids' tiffins. Lets see...

    Thanks for your reply :)

Mine was good until use the regular microwave (700 watts). When I used in high power microwave (1100 )I got the yucky plastic smell. By the way ,I did not have any probelm with the texture, it was soft.

    Thanks, Muyalkutti.

Do the idlis stay soft even if you don't eat it immediately?

What brand was your idli stand?

i depends on the idly stand be used in the microwave. If it is of good plastic or tupperware ones the idlies comes out really nice and image only in 5 min we have the idlies ready.

I really love microwave cooking. It is healthy too because the heat is generated by the internal combustion of the food molecules and not by the external heat.transfered through the vessels. Only thing is quality microwave ware to be used. glassware and the clayware are the best ones. but not availalble for idlies.
