    Smriti, then:
"Dont go to office. Its raining today." calls out the old man from the room while he is with his beads doing the morning prayers!

Me, mom, dad, sister and brother laugh out. I am 24. He does want me to travel 2 kms to office because its drizzling outside!! :rotfl

"Now you're laughing. Then, you'll be sneezing" He calls out again and asks God for giving me and my boss some brains!! But of course, my boss needs to give leave for his precious grand-daughter will get wet in the drizzle!!! :queen

That man is my best man!! Never seen, never will see a better person than him on this whole humongous Earth!

I can pull his cheeks like he's a sibling, pat his back like he's a buddy, ask him advices like he's a guide and talk to him all day like we're both old ladies on our daily dose of gossips!!! :rotfl

We have a relationship which can surpass any relation I have ever had with anyone. He loves me, I adore him. I want a husband like him not like my dad! He shouts at my dad if dad doesn't allow me anything I love. He shouts at mom if she doesn't cook my favorite meal. And laughs like a child when I tell him "you're my best friend daddu!!!"

He calls up his long lost friends to relay them / boast them that his grand-daughter is studying law!!! He asks me if I will take him along with me to my first date with my husband! And asks me whether I'll buy him a ticket to watch India-Pakistan match!!

We listen to old songs while sipping cuppa tea and having garma garam puri! We talk about fights for independence and that 15h August, 1947 when the shops ran out of festival lights. We talk about that historical 1983 world cup. We talk about my friends at school. We talk about food we love. We shout at the umpires loudly in the living room while watching tv and we swear that "that umpire will go to hell for giving a wrong wicket to pakistan!"

Every friend of his, every relative of ours know that I am his best girl and he, my best man!!! :thumbsup

They say, he was able to recover from partial paralysis within 6 months because I made him feel alive. He wanted to live.

The year of my final exam:
I am out shopping with cousins when mum calls me and says "he is breathless and we're taking him to the hospital"

We rush to the hospital. The days were passed in a haze and I could hear them murmur in the living hall from my room. No one talked to me about him. No one let me meet him. He was in ICCU for 20 days.

The one day that I met him, a lady hospitalised beside him tells me "so you're the smriti he keeps talking about. He's so proud of you." I am crying inside and yet, I tell him about the praises I received from office for a particular assignment. His face flushes with pride and a slight smile below the breathing device. I couldn't sleep the whole night.

5 days later, he left us.

I somehow manage to pass the finals. May be, it was a miracle. They say "he's blessed you immeasurably while leaving. He's looking out for you. He'll surely meet you someway in his next birth". I know he's not. He trusts me enough to move on. I know he's not taking another birth. The God needs beautiful souls with him. He's with God. Smiling. Probably pissing God off for making my boss give me leave because the sun is scorching too hard and his precious grand-daughter cannot bear heat!!! :rotfl

That is my best man. The man, they claim can make God go mad by asking him unusual requests!!! :biglaugh

Today, cricket matches dont interest me as much because they're not fun without my partner! Old songs bring back too many memories! Some things are fun only with the person you enjoyed them with. Today, they're mundane. My DH thinks people are bluffing when they say that smriti is an avid cricket buff and dont mess with her while she's watching a match! He's somewhere jealous!

I think he should be thankful somewhere because otherwise, there was no way he could get away from a person pestering constantly to know whether smriti had tea, had breakfast, went to office on time, returned on time, had dinner, is well, applied vicks, needs anything, wants a break, needs a cricket match ticket, needs ..... wants....... wishes...... :rotfl

    My best man!! :thumbsup :thumbsup

So touching Smriti. you brought back memories of my Dada who passed away when I was I was in college.

Once I stood first at the State Level Elocution Competition and my photo was published in the newspapers. I clearly remember he took me out alongwith the papers to all his friends introducing me to them so proudly.

Elders are like a blessing for all of us. Wherever they are from above, we know they are protecting and guiding us.
