    Hi,

I like to know anyone knows good driving instructors in bayarea especially Sunnyvale area.I am living here from the past 5 years still didn't have my driver licence. I took two times my behind the wheel drive test, unfortunately I failed. Now I have my own car and still didn't have a licence. My previous instructor closed his school and now I need new instructor to take only 2 or3 classes. Please give me some information about the instructors.

    Thank you,
    laxmi.

Driving Schools in the Bay Area

    Hello lakshmi,

Search on Yahoo Yellow pages on the web. You will get a number of driving school's names. You can also look in your local yellow pages book. Sometimes you can find coupons there for 1 free class etc..

Call atleast 3 to 4 schools to compare the charges before you decide on one. I hope one of the other Bay area members can give you a specific name, i cannot help there.

    my experience with driving

    Dear Srilak
2 or 3 classes each with a duration of 2 hrs should be more than enough to learn driving here in U.S, assuming you are using a vehicle with automatic gear.

I took 3 classes only and after that drove around with my husband and kid in and around my locality for a few days. Then since my husband had already got his license and since he knew the routes thru' which the driving examiners took him for his behind-the-wheel test,he asked me to drive thru' those routes 2 to 3 times. So I actually got a feel of the routes too.

Although I got my driving license in the first attempt,I did do some silly mistakes. When changing lanes, the examiner expects you to actually turn your head in both directions( to look behind the vehicle) before changing lanes.Eventhough I did look,he thought I did not turn my head to look,so I lost one point there. Also, while taking right turns, you should stop at the stop line ,then crawl forward, look for oncoming vehicles, and then turn.I did not stop completely,I just kept crawling before turning.I lost atleast 5 -6 points since there were 5-6 right turns.

I am not based at the Bay area,so I really don't think I can help you with regard to driving schools. In Sacramento,I learnt at the A-1 driving school and that is a good school. If you have branches of that in your area,u could try.

    Driving school suggestion

    Dear Laxmi,

Not sure if you've taken the test already or are still preparing for the same, but here my 2 cents:-

I took lessons from Deluxe driving school in San Jose. I took only 2 lessons and my instructor suggested that I buy a used car (as my husband drives a stick shift) and that I should drive an practice between the learning sessions as that's the best way one can make use of the driving lessons as well.

Which dmv are u planning to take the test at? I took it at Santa Clara and passed as well, but the instructors there are famous for giving you a tough time, whereas dmv's of other areas such as Redwood City, Santa Teresa are believed to be better ones to take the test at.

    Thank you

    Hi shal,

Thank you for the information. I am again lerning driving from my husbend. you probably know how it goes with husbend when we learn from them. He has lot of patience but end of the practise we fight for some mistakes I made while driving. Begining I took some classes from instructor and he gave me some basic learning tips.

I am planning to take my test end of next month and I will post my experience. Previously I took test in Santaclara and I got very good examineers but I didn't do well. That I should agree.

    Regards.
    Srilak.
