Manju - I made this using the grated coconut I get in stores here. It didn't have the brown stuff there, don't know if they do something. It looked like it was shredded in some machine. I didnt do anything else. Just followed the recipe from here Mahanandi » Coconut Burfi (Kobbari Paakam, Kobbari Lauju)
Thanks Anjana i the coconut browns are culprit always i thought u might have followed some special to remove those Anyways i ll try to grate coconut without the brown.
i cut coconut pieces, and shave off the back brown part. run it in the mixie /grater and get just pure white coconut, and also being very careful with the heat and the stirring is another trick for white barfi's with coconut.
Sudha - not sue if this is the authentic way to do this but this is how I do it. Heat oil, add jeera, red chillies and shredded ginger. Add finely cut spinach ( I just run them in the food processor ), turmeric and salt. Cook it till spinach is cooked and once it's cooled , add yogurt and salt. It's an easy one to make in the morning and pack it for lunch. I do the same with eggplant also to make eggplant raita
