    hi Satchi,

This was a good write-up! And I loved your "she made me do it" icon. I don't think I saw it in any other posts till date. Very nice!! And yes, like you am interested in bath items and toiletries a lott.. and crockery and kitchen items too. I keep piling up things in our 1 BHK apartment and never tend to use it..

And in India, my trips to malls were for only movies and McDonalds. Sometimes I take in chaat, juices, corn etc.
Shopping for clothes was restricted to few times a year for work clothes as they tend to be so costly. I bought a teeny tiny perfume bottle for close to 5k and never went to that counter again..!!

Oh well, it is good to reminisce about the good old days in India!!

    Dear Satchi,

How did you read my mind? I hate malls. Once upon a time I used to love malls (malls in India and abroad are same to me, I hate both). On my first US trip I told everyone back home that malls are the best thing I loved in US. But I don't know what happened later I don't know...I don't like them any more. In Hyderabad so many malls have come up. I never go. I like my street corner shop for groceries, vegetable vendor who brings vegetables in the cart and for sarees a shop is there is Chikkapalli. Every where I get personal interaction, I know about their families, their problems...I know everything. I can buy my Bengal cotton sarees ( I like them a lot) with saree dealer who comes to my home with his huge bag of sarees. Why go to mall and buy? I don't eat out much. Even if we go I like Saravana Bhavan or Udipi hotel that high street eating places.

I am glad you are with me.

    Dear Satchi,
I forgot to write. I have nominated this snippet of yours for the finest one this month.

I hate malls - is what you tell others. :)

I love malls - is what you tell yourself ;-)

So I think the title should be "me, myself and my malls"..... MMMM......mmmm

Thanks helpmeangel. I must say, I love my food wherever it be and whatever sort it be. I love the sweet corn and find it hard to make up my mind what flavour I want, so I generally end up asking the guy to mix two or three flavours. :-D

As for clothes, never buy clothes from malls except formals or western wear. The rest are best bought in local stores where there is much better variety for better prices.

As for good old days in India, yes, that's true, but once year, nostalgia of life there also takes over from time to time. How sad we cannot have both at one and the same time. That is when a trip to an M&S is the next best thing you can get.

    Dear Satchi,

I love malls, I will always love malls. My life would turn into a Sahara without malls. I would die of thirst. And why do I love malls? I love malls because I use them to test my self-control. Rarely do I buy anything there, hardly ever ogle at pretty girls, and patiently wait as my wife finishes her ice-cream! I admit I do sometimes buy a black coffee and praise myself for not adding sugar to it. What more could I want in life? I am the ultimate destroyer of malls, am I not. Malls can't survive if people don't buy. But my wish list keeps getting longer everyday. I want a new laptop, though I already own two computers in perfect working condition. I want to buy the latest Samsung tab, though I have the earlier version and this too works alas. Who knows? Perhaps I like malls, but the malls don't like me.

    Sigh.

    Dear Syamala,

Nice to know that you too feel the same way about malls. The personal interaction is what one misses the most in these impersonal shops. Besides everything is so much more expensive.

As for the food, I love food wherever I get it. Only now, with age (my body's I mean, not my mind's) slowly creeping up on me, I find my tum does not see eye to eye with me (naturally, given the anatomical location, it is a physical impossibility) on food I love. So I am forced to be more careful what I impose on that part of my anatomy.

Thanks a lot for the nomination. :)

Dear OJ-da, now that is what I call "active" destruction of the mall culture. Go there and not buy anything, rather than boycotting from a distance. As for the wish list growing longer, well, you do not need to window shop in malls for that. Browsing through the pages on your computer will do equally nicely to serve the purpose. :-D As for malls not liking you, can you blame them when you so "actively" destroy them?
