I have an electric stove too. What I do is wrap the plate below the heat coil in foil to catch all the spills etc. Then change the foils as needed, generally once every 2-3 weeks.

To clean stains on the plate below the coil, use oven cleaner. The cleaner is very strong smelling so I suggest to either do this in the balcony or in a well ventilated room. First soak the plates overnight in warm water and baking soda mix. In the morning, spray the plates with the oven cleaner and leave it on for a few hours. Then wet with water and use the steel cleaner to scrub off the stains. Use gloves as the oven cleaner is quite harsh. Then dry off the plates, wrap in foil paper and you will have a nice shiny stove!

Like pmahensa says the foil wrapping is very useful. also you get disposable foil plates in one dollar stores and also regular walmart etc where it will be very useful.:)

    Hi Sudhira,
Don't worry about it... you get the replacement very easily in the market (walmart) for a cheaper price. You could buy them and replace it while leaving the apartment.
For time being you could cover the steel brackets with aluminium foils and change them every week. That's how we all been doing for years...
So don't worry about coils etc...
For counter tops you could use soft scrub bleach lotion for cleaning... it cleans very easily and no scrubing is needed. Just with your bounty towels, you could clean.

    Good luck.
