Forehead mark

    Hi guys.

    i used to have a lot of sticker bindi but they leave a white mark on your forehead. so i am using kukum powder.

    hubby insist that i must put it...i usually put a black one because i like that colour but back in india they say married one should wear red.

    my question is

    - do u wear bindi....if yes....what colour?
    - why married women have one also in her parting?
    Are they have another meaning than they indicate we are taken?

    generally Indian who are marrie dwil keep maroon or red bindi. black bindis are kept by only widows.. and now a days girls keep black bindis as formal.

    I am a regular user of bindi. But if we use a good quality bindi we do not get the white mark. Yes married woman usually wear red or maroon bindi and black bindi is used by the widows but now a days young girls do wear all coloured bindies.
    About the white mark apply little bit of moisturising cream on your forehead and then appy your bindi you will not get the mark.
    I am using Shilpa bindi from last 30 years and i always have day and night but till today I do not have any white mark on my forhead.

    Hi Huma,

    Yes, they normally say women are supposed to wear only maroon or red bindi. Personally, I don't follow it. I wear a black or maroon bindi depending on which of these colours goes with my dress. I've been using Eyetex bindis for more than 10 years now and I don't have any problems.

    The reason for a red bindi(as I have been told) is this: We have a power "chakra" right between our eyebrows. When we place a bindi, we press that centre and this is supposed to energise the body. And the reason for red is that, in those days it(kumkum) used to be a mixture of turmeric and other ingredients(i don't remember their names). So, the goodness of the ingredients used is passed on to the body, adding that "glow" to the face. Of course, all this is in addition to the beautiful look it gives.

    Nowadays, kumkum is rarely used as such and even the stuff that we get in stores is rarely made the traditional way. Most of us use sticker bindis, so, personally, I do not think it makes any difference what colour bindi you wear. :)
