The most common thing I am doing nowadays is that I walk to the store room from the kitchen and once arriving there I totally forget why I went there in the first place!
I then spend some time in between kitchen and store room to figure out why I went to fetch what!
Apparently I now discover there is scientific proof that walking through a doorway causes forgetting!
They could have asked me instead of doing these expensive research and studies.
It is now becoming inevitable that my cooking time is proportionately increased due to this to & fro walking, forgetting and trying to remember what I am forgetting..
This onset of forgetfulness alas cannot be blamed at getting old , though I am getting there!
When I got married my parents advised me to remember to get on the back of the scooter or else my husband might push off without me.
While visiting me they were witness to my going on Interstate South instead of North and then after a loooong time remember where I had to be headed to!
When my son was born the ONLY advice my parents gave me was DON’T FORGET YOUR BABY!:)
The fact that I am able to return home in one piece never ceases to amaze me at all.
Getting old and older is becoming more interesting and to my advantage really.:crazy
If I don’t dust and clean as I should then I blame it on my poor eyesight.
If I don’t put away papers and files which I hate anyways I blame it on my advancing years.
If I don’t cook load the dish washer as I promptly should I blame it on my old joints.
If I don’t want to call my boring relatives I blame it on my memory.
Wow.. I never thought getting old can be so much fun!
Here is a list of abominable things I wish to do as I am getting old!

I have only a few years to reach a ripe old age
Deviously I plan evil under a sweet camouflage
Nasty to relatives need no one to encourage
Most mean in law to them I long to engage :eek
Irritating to one & all who appear in my lineage
Bad & rude words I will choose as my language
Aggravating to anyone residing in my village
Youngsters soon realize they are at disadvantage
All wonder how this old woman can one manage
Everyone tries to run far and hide with no courage
Hubby dear remains tied down to me in marriage
Longing to become all this & more in m frail dotage
All in the thrill and victory of reaching a ripe old age. :queen

Well. That sounded hilarious AnandChitra. And the verse at the end about what you want to do. :)
But, knowing only a bit of you, I can say for sure that, you'll never be like that.

I say to myself again that I surely can.
And walk to the store room which is 'far'.
    Once there, I fumble as I can't
Remember why I came there for.

My cooking time has increased now
Thankfully my flaws are a few.
Years of practice makes it somehow
So good to eat! I just tell you.

With an advancement only in age
    And diminishing all other things
    I realize that I've reached a stage
Where I have to do something

To stay fit and be cheerful too
    Inspite of my failing eyesight,
And a painful knee, forcing a few
    Medicines, which don't sound right.

At an age when a mirror is used
Only to reflect the room light,
I smile when I am making use
Of my brain to give others a light

    Moment or two, bringing release
From a big stress that a few
    Experience here and are pleased.
Thanks. My joys are not a few.

It is indeed a honor to get a visit from you and a true pleasure to get a poem too.:thumbsup
Not expecting this I am now embarrassed that I stringed together some words.. :)
You have crafted in your inimitable style that which I wanted to express and added some “toppings” so sweet that this far exceeds in beauty than the original!

The lines “I smile when I making use
Of my brain to give others light”.. is a sure sample of your popularity.

There are really advantages to getting old and also being in a stage of life termed “empty nesters”. It depends really on our attitude.

You might be surprised that I actually use certain things I wrote to keep some nosy relatives at a distance. Now that I am older I am all of a sudden able to see I do not have to bend towards all the pulls and tags by relatives and stand on my feet to assert. I personally feel one needs to be little older to do this because when we do it when we are young we have to hear all the complaints to no end and also have be chided by parents too!

Thanks for the visit and the cheerful comment :)

I am slowly seeing the benefits of getting older and taking total advantage of it.
You know you have a long standing invitation to come for chicken , whiskey, beer & wine always. I will never forget it. :tongue

    Dear AC
Oh...oh....had you forgotten to tell kamalji that chicken and Wiskey for him was left in the Fridge?
    @ kamalji,
While typing this the iPads autocorrect, corrected the word to WISH KEY....they do not let this wise mega type the " w" word.
    Nice narration AC ji.

The laughs you generate with your posts are gonna keep people young.... And that too with a post that glamorizes aging. :)

    Hi AnandChitra,

Thanks for your appreciation first. And you are so modest. I wrote based on your post, so if what I wrote is good, your post is better. And your last four lines in the response were quite realistic and shows clearly the frustration that you might have had in dealing with such people. And I am happy that you liked my verse. -rgs

Sorry for the cross thread AnandChitra.
    To Megalife:

That autocorrect part was quite funny. Are you deliberately not giving the full sentence that iPad suggested? Here I type it for Kamalji!

"I only wish that I had the key
To the fridge stocked with whiskey
So that I could serve Kamalji
    Instead of writing an apology."
    :) -rgs
