    ks,

Another tidbit...it seems gandhiji asked mss to record a meerabhajan hari tum haro lady hesitated because she did not understand and also worried about the diction..she got herself a tutor, learnt the songs and then sang it.. It seems gandhiji had requested it thus "I prefer to hear it spoken by mss rather than sung by somebody"

Music has no language..but when you understand the bhava, and the lyrics adds a crown to the krithi is my humble opinion. that said i love renditions on the violin/sitar/sarod/flute.. where there has been no necessity for the lyrics..

Dears, Music has no language and no boundaries is a universal truth. Not here for arguments buddies! May be in a initial stage of self learning, I always preferred a song in my mother tongue since I can understand the lyrics, bhavam of the song and for learning within a week's time. I normally set a time to learn the song. After my voice became flexible, I was able sing in other languages. It's just my opinion, but it varies with each person's interests and grasping power :) Everyone has their own preference. Between IJM & Shanvy too , I feel you are blessed to sing along with MS amma's song. For me, no voice will come in low pitch! So no chance like you. Can listen and sing in my Shruthi only :( ! By the way anyone knew about voice training?!

my all time favourites in tamil are kurai ondrum illai, enna thavam seydhanai (you should listen to the lyrics 'uralil katti, vaay pothi, kenja vaithai kannani.... inspite of he being the supreme power, she had made him a little boy! very powerful), paal vadiyum mugam, madu meikkum kanne (one of the simplest kavadi that anyone can attempt), koovi azhaithal, kanda naal mudhalai... et al. listen to 'vadavaraiyai mathaki' by MS!! bliss.

There are days when it is shruthiyaaa..how much does it cost for a kg lolz.. my husband sings wonderful bajans with the bakti baava..he tells us all the time, singing with shruthi and talam is for the learning, but singing sometimes also should be for your pleasure and happiness..

So it is ok if it is not shruthi suddam (but i have a year for finding faults...after years of listening it does get imbeded) as long as i enjoy the flavours...

voice training is a big business in chennai these days..

Thanks for asking :-D I am due for Dec, Shanvy. LO is busy and making me active. Chinni is absolutely fine. Yes she has a perfect sweet voice that i dare to waste. She is learning carnatic music but for the teacher who is not very good. She is learning for months together and has not yet crossed jandai varisai! :-( so looking for a better class and better teacher. And Shanvy, she is learning barathanatyam also... she is too damn interested in dancing too :)
