    Hi Dipu

I had come across those ladies when I was in India i.e. 4 years back.I too was tensed at the start when I heard about PCOS.My Gynec was also my aunt, she introduced me to those ladies to relieve my tension. I am sorry..don’t have their contacts.

Ladies with PCOS donot ovulate good quality eggs.So it becomes difficult to get pregnant naturally. You must go to a good Fertility expert to treat PCOS.They shall give you medicines to control your PCOS and if you are interested now, they also give medicines for ovulation.

    Hi all,

I have PCOS. It is not very severe(so says the doc).....but still I have it. My problem is this - weight! I am not extrmely overweight but I can stand to lose some weight. If I reduce my weight, my cycles seem to have some kind of regularity. But I am unable to stabilise my weight loss.:spin I am finding it difficult to get pregnant! As we are trying for pregnancy, I am worried about doing any exerceises other than walking. Can anybody tell me if they have lost weight and kept it away? My doc tells me losing weight might improve my chances of conception. Please help! :help

Yes, I still have PCOS, There is no cure for this syndrome but you can definitely try to control it. I visit my Doctor Regularly for my blood tests and so that if they see something abnormal they can increase or decrease my doses. I take hypothyroid medication daily and I am also on birth control pills because Doctors think that it will control the PCOS Symptoms.

I tried conceiving naturally for 3 years but nothing happened. My doctor suggested Clomid I tried that too, after that my Doctor’s Suggested going for IUI, I tried that too and then I met with my wonderful Doctor who is a Reproductive Endocrinologist and he suggested me to try IVF, but during my first IVF Cycle I ended up with an ectopic pregnancy (It happens only in extreme case) and it was at an advanced stage so they have to remove my right fallopian tube. My doctor suggested to wait for 6 months before trying again, So I waited for 6 months and then started my 2nd IVF Cycle , and got pregnant with twins , everything was ok and I graduated from my RE’s care to a regular OB/GYN , but My Bad luck struck again and I lost one of my twin at 4 months . But I have no complains to the almighty God as he gave me my Dearest darling son, who is my life.

    Dipu,
I would suggest do your research , and keep your eyes and ears open you have to take every decision , Please do not depend on Doctor’s 100% , you need to make you case and decide what is the best option.
When I tried Clomid at that moment I knew that this is not going to work because my body responded to clomid poorly, so I decided to move ahead to a much rigorous procedure.

If you are in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">USA</st1:country-region></st1:place>, Please check with you insurance IVF is covered in many states. In US the total cost for 1 cycle is between $10000 to $ 15000.

    Hi Shilpa,
In vitro fertilization is a relatively simple and painless procedure. For patients with inoperative fallopian tubes, couples experiencing male fertility problems or those who have been unsuccessful with less advanced treatments, IVF is often the best alternative to achieve pregnancy.
Simply stated, IVF involves collecting eggs and sperm from you and your partner and placing them together in a laboratory dish for fertilization. Days later the microscopic embryos are transferred into the uterus where implantation and pregnancy will hopefully occur, as in a normal pregnancy.
    The diffrent Steps of IVF
STEP I: Ovarian Stimulation. Medication is used to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple ovarian follicles (eggs).

STEP II: Egg Retrieval. Eggs are retrieved via follicle aspiration, in which a very thin catheter is carefully guided by ultrasound to withdraw the entire contents of the follicle, including the egg.

STEPIII: Fertilization. Sperm is collected, washed and placed together with the egg to fertilize. The fertilized eggs are allowed to develop for a few days.

STEP IV: Embryo Transfer. A catheter containing an optimum number of embryos is gently inserted into the uterus and the embryos are transferred back to the mother. Two weeks later a simple blood test will verify if pregnancy has occurred.

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a procedure which involves placing sperm inside a woman’s uterus to facilitate fertilization. This fertility treatment does not involve the manipulation of a woman’s eggs, and therefore is not considered an assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedure.

    What is IUI?
IUI is a fertility treatment that uses a catheter to place a number of washed sperm directly into the uterus. The goal of IUI is to increase the number of sperm that reach the fallopian tubes and subsequently increase the chance of fertilization.

    When is IUI used?
IUI is a fertility treatment often selected by couples who have been trying to conceive for at least one year but who have no known reasons for their infertility. It may also be selected as a fertility treatment with any of the following conditions:
    • Low sperm count
    • Decreased sperm mobility
    • Requirement of donor sperm
    • A hostile cervical condition, such as cervical mucus that is too thick
    • Sexual dysfunction
Although IUI still requires the sperm to reach and fertilize the egg on its own, it is important to make sure that the sperm is healthy and mobile. IUI provides the sperm an advantage by giving it a head start, but it still has to seek out the egg on its own.

    How does IUI work?
The IUI procedure is simple and may be performed even if the woman is not receiving medication to improve her egg production. Many physicians will encourage women to take medications to stimulate the ovaries in order to increase egg production and, hopefully, the chance of achieving pregnancy.
An ultrasound will be used to monitor the size of the follicles (follicles develop into eggs). The hormone, human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), is administered to stimulate the release of eggs from the follicles within 34-40 hours.
A semen sample will be processed by the lab in order to separate the semen from the seminal fluid. A catheter is used to inject the processed sperm directly into the uterus. This process maximizes the number of sperm cells that are placed in the uterus and thus increases the possibility of conception. The IUI procedure is short and involves minimal discomfort.

    How successful is IUI?
Younger women usually have higher rates of success compared to women over age 35, but the average success rate for IUI ranges from 10-20% in one cycle. With IUI, as with other methods of artificial insemination, the success is dependent on the health of the sperm and the woman's body.
