I was in tamilnadu....In kerala most of the people knew hindi because its our national languagoe so they give preference to hindi also...But in tamilnadu we are not so interested to learn it and during my school days i hate our miss who always beat students bcos no one studies hindi(she is a good in hindi but didnt know the techniques to teach us ..tat may be the problem ...)Now i feel tat i should learn hindi bcos its very useful language...As ur uncle said keralians watch hindi movies bcos they are attracted by hindi but they didnt forget malayalam....so my conclusion is if hindi comes tamil also remains bcos tamil has its unique identity and sweetness.....

Learning a new language no way makes us forget another language, So it is not because of that they dont prefer to learn a language, Today's scenario has changed many students/ parents opt for 2nd language as Hindi in Schools, unlike olden days.

    Best wishes..

This is with reference to one of the comment which claims that Hindi is a "national" language of India. I am not sure if that person happens to be Indian or knows the country enough, it is not the National language. The recent Gujarat high court judgement also reflects this. Neither Hindi not Urdu (as claimed by a section of Muslims) are national languages in India. India does not have a national language. It is also a reality that both these languages are not of Indian origin.

As far compulsion to learn a language, it should be decided by the person, however forcing Hindi as a compulsory subject and failing students as done in CBSE schools and giving disproportionate syllabus favouring Hindi speakers should not be allowed.

Tamil should be made compulsory in Tamil Nadu the same way as Marathi language in Maharashtra state.

    hi

hindi is must be taught in all the schools. so that tamilians can also see hindi movies or we may not suffer when we travel to northindia. this is my opinion.

when i went to haridwar i went to have the view of ganga arthi where one person duped as he will do pooja to ganga matha and our ancestors. he demanded rs. 500 or more but since my dad did not have change just gave rs.100 and we somehow escaped from him. this is the situation of the tamilians .at least the govt must take necessary steps to make hindi learning a mandatory.

I recommend Hindi can be learnt at 3rd language level so that there will be a basic knowledge about it. Since Hindi is spoken and understood by most of the Indians there is no harm in learning it. As a student I had a hatred for learning Hindi as many of my batchmates did. I was not forced to learn Hindi but slowly started understanding it seeing TV programmes. I didnt have a tough time when I got appointment in Delhi. I could manage quite well with the limited knowledge. I feel that I should have learnt Hindi grammar during student days. Thinking in these lines I chose Hindi as 2nd lang for DS. But he has different ideas. He wants to get rid of Hindi learning at 10th level and wishes to continue 11th in a CBSE school solely for this reason.

Learning Hindi is each of their personal choices and it should not be made compulsory.

But In my opinion Hindi should not be entertained in Tamil Nadu.

Our tamil language is more than 2500 years old. Like Greek and latin, tamil and sanskirit are oldest classical langauge. Sanskirti langauge is almost dead not used by common ppl. But Tamil is one of the classical living language existing.

When foreign middle eastern country invented language Hindi made Sanskrit language no more. Like that, I don't prefer my Tamil language to go because of Hindi.

Excuse me only 41% people speak Hindi In India ( rest of them speak their own regional languages) [source :wikipedia]

English should be made as national langauge in India. Majority of them speaks English than hindi.

Racist people take many forms and language racism is no different. There is a difference between giving a choice of what one wants to learn and dumping something on someone's throat.

Hindi is more a political tool than a worthwhile literary language. Which is why they have banned other languages out of UPSC exams, which is why Hindi state get lower cut off in IIT entrance, which is why other Indian languages are not allowed in bank communication, also which is why crores of tax money is wasted on its propogation, Hindi week and other wastages (also shares of public listed banks would tell the story of their priorities of Hindi than service aspects). Hindi is the also same language as Urdu, the language of Pakistan and is not a true Indian language.

What you see in schools in force feeding of Hindi as a second or third language and not something as an option.

Hindi is anyway a foreign originated language which does not at all represent our culture and history, the bitter truth is that the language came through foreign invasions and rule including Mughal rule which was brought through extreme violence. So you would rather learn a technical oriented foreign language like French, German than a language with a violent history meant to kill India's own native languages.

The example of the incident in North India is not just a big negative about the language, crime and fraud is their culture - they will do that even if you are a PHD in Hindi. As you know by the news for a long time, MAJORITY OF TERRORIST ATTACKS, BRUTAL CRIMES, CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN TAKE PLACE IN HINDI KNOWLEDGABLE STATES IN INDIA. Tamil Nadu though not perfect is nothing compared to what happens in Hindian states.

Your argument that Tamilians migrate to north Indian states, so the entire state should learn Hindi is absolute non-sense. Today many North Indians are coming to Tamil Nadu than the other way, can must argue that your North Indian states will Tamil (which is the original Indian language and also the Most International Indian language - official in more countries than Hindi) as a compulsory subject? They not just do not learn Tamil, but come to Tamil Nadu do bank robberies, gang wars, fraud, mass ticketless travel etc. This is a class of people in the name of "national" language expect lip service.

There is no national language, Hindi as a compulsory second language should be abolished. Tamil should be made compulsory in Tamil Nadu at an elementary level for basic survival, Today the happening place in Tamil Nadu, Most of automobile production in India happens in Tamil Nadu, most SME business in India is in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu inspite of its stupid leaders will receive major foreign investment - it is because there is some level of work culture.

Majority argument does not hold water, the male gender is the majority gender, so women should be stripped of all rights? What non sense argument.

As we see in Tamil Nadu, Tamil is on the road to fast eradication and non-Tamil origin Dravidian parties making Hindi speakers into the OBC list, banning Tamil movies, banning Tamil books.

Hindi as force fed language language in schools, radio entertainment, Hindi as only language option in customer service, airlines, banks etc at the same time banning of Indian languages in entrance exams, restriction in customer service is just another extension of the Racist Indian Mindset which includes caste system, reservation, gender inequality.

Many of these "Gandhians" who expect everyone to do lip service in Hindi are just plain racists.
