My house is clean and neat .Every thing is in order and we never search for anything,at any time.

My problem is that my house doesn't look beautiful. No colourful paintings, flower vases, carpet ,glass top coffee table ,antique pieces, photographs.Nothing decorative.

In a big TV cabinet,we keep, emergency lamp, dvds ,dictionary,a glass cup with DH's bike keys and another glass cup with coins.

Bottom shelf with my toddler's painting books, crayons and water colour cakes, brushes, etc.

My house looks like a well kept library. When I visit our neighbours they have a big chandelier at the drawing room, paintings, antique pieces, glass top coffee table and imagine all the beautiful things.

Almost all have modular kitchen .I can't be sure whether their kitchens are cockroach free.I have seen some beautiful flats with a lot of cockroaches running inside the beautiful modular kitchen cabinets.

Never in my life I have purchased a decorative piece.I also removed the doors from my modular kitchen to have open shelves.May be some problem in my head.

But,I am satisfied with the cleanliness of the house. That matters the most, isn't it?

    Hi all
I like my house to be neat and lived in.
The most important tip is to put things back in the place where they belong and have a routine for cleaning.
Keep the kitchen dry at all times and u wont have to worry about pests. I get pest control done regularly for cockroaches and ants and to get the kitchen rid of flies I leave 2 or 3 pieces of camphor pellets in a stand near the sink and counter corners. Having diffusers with lemon grass oil or any fragrance of your choice also helps in keeping the house rid of pests and adds freshness.

    Hi DG,

I get that dear.... I too had the house mopped ones a day when the kids were 2 and below. Once they were above two I cut it down two twice a week, and now it is ones a week (for wet mop). I do dry mop alternate days... it is very effective for trapping dust and hair on the floor:)

My issue is not with the cleaniness/hygiene part of it, but more to do with things getting out of place and always finding toys and color pencils on the floor of the living room:bonk I have come to a nice routine of putting things away while sweeping in the morning and also once after getting back from office....

I am hoping once the kids are grown up, it wouldn't be a big chore :)

    Hi peartree,

With a toddler of 2, it is but natural to have a bit of mess... things will improve as the child grows up.... i have been hoping for that for the past 4 years :spin

It was fairly easy with one child.... things started getting a little off control after the second baby and ILs moving in with me.

Now, with the second DD hitting 5, my home is now in a much better shape than when she was two:) thank goodness.... so my best wishes to you dear :thumbsup

You are right Magicworld.... we need a plan!!

Lets start with a small but irritating problem - Crayons!!

My girls love to colour and paint and they are way too many colour pencils(small and big), crayons, sketchpens, highlighters....

I try to separate them out and keep them in different pencil holders, but they are always mixed up (naturally) and many are lying around on the sofa, coffee table and floor. I pick them up and sort them, but when all the pencil holders are so mixed up, I give up and stuff them into which ever is empty:rant

While typing this itself, I got half my answer.... i have way tooo many of them:bonk

The Plan is to first separate out a set of colour pencils and put all the duplicates away!! I can reduce the 5-6 pencil holders to just 2 - pencils and crayons:thumbsup

I will come back with the results:)

Please give your suggestions for improving this and also state a small problem area of yours and lets all pitch in with suggestions to tackle it:thumbsup

I also had this problem of my DD messing up with her color pencils, crayons, erasers and sharpeners. I could find almost a big shop at home, since she tends to get all these different varieties from her dad, my sis, my cousins and everyone. It was indeed like a godown. Anything valuable that was lost was found in hers. I gave her a room for herself, and bought a big drum kind of thing with a lid. Dumped all the small ones like carrom coins, chess coins and every small stuff in small pouches/ boxes which i never used. I keep unused stationery in a separate bag up the cupboard. I give her whatever she requires, and the duplicate ones i have donated since the sketches may dry up before she starts using it.

I am able to manage a clutter free home, but it took lot of time and convincing my DH. I managed to dispose off the biggest ever cot, my wall unit, my oven (which i used sparingly), my washing machine and a bigger wooden wardrobe. Inspite of cleaning my wall unit everyday, still i could find a heap of dust sitting on it. Now that, we have very less things at home. I have told my maid to mop and wash every alternate days, have paid her extra to wash all the bedspreads and curtains during weekends! I just have minimal clutter now. Now that i have to maintain only the kitchen and the little clutter here and there. Even i have minimal kitchen utensils for daily usage and have packed all the others at a reach.

Everyday, after am back from the office, i spend atleast 30 mts to do cleaning the doors, window grills, cobweb removal, dusting, maintaining the washrooms, and doing my wardrobe. I ensure that all my, DD & DH dresses are kept ready for the entire week. Right from Socks to Hankeys everything in one corner of my wardrobe. This prevents the hassle of wardrobe clutter. I put things back in place, whenever i find something out of place. I dont expect my DD, DH to share my work, as I have to redo once again.

I also ensure whenever i get a new attire into my wardrobe, i manage to donate one from mine. I follow this for my DD and DH too. Kitchen - everyday i do homework. Fridge - I ensure that nothing except for tomatoes and batter is there. May be Jams, pickles and dry fruits may take space in the side rack. Everyday i buy fresh veggies and no stocking. Potatoes and onions, i have a rack under my fridge where i store.
