    hello

She was well past fifty when she decided to start a family of sorts. She was bold, loving, caring, pious and best of all had great love for us. We were all hand picked one by one patiently. She always went for the best in us. We didn’t belong to one family and yet we belonged to one, hers. She didn’t mind adding more and more. She sure had a taste of high living.
Her family had very little time for us. Her sons and daughters were grown up and were away to lands far away. Her apartment was quite airy but very small. At present she lived all by herself and us.
People who came to visit her were often astonished at her grit to house us all in that little apartment. Although she would have loved a tiny house all her own where she can have a little garden that was not to be what with the spiraling prices and her willingness to stay in a rented place as long as she could house us without hindrance from her family or neighbours.
She was a joyous lady singing and going about work. She had very little belongings a chair here a bed there and just one table that she used for kitchening, dining, writing or even packing..! we were mute spectators to her everyday chores as we could help little with her life. If only we were able to we could have giggled at her daily prayers that included our future. You have to agree she was different.
We have been with her for quite some years now and boy!! Did she guard us like a canine from all those pesky intruders. She wouldn’t even let an ant near the room. Guess she loved us more that herself.
The day started off raining. Her family had arrived from abroad and they were going on a trip to a small resort up the hill. Were we lucky to be taken for a ride too..!!! ? There was laughter all round. She was talking in high pitched tones about our future and the family had great ideas too.
The hairpin bends were taken with joy and sometimes they did stop. She was now somewhat quiet. She was saying her prayers.`` I have been nurturing and loving you all along your simple stay with me now pray go your way and have a nice future. Do not forget for one moment that this world depends a whole lot on you to be wonderful nice and happy. You the seeds of the future generations will grow into wherever you are placed, dropped or just thrown away, with grit and determination not to die or wither away even in the most unfortunate of climates and nutrients that you will require for growth. Do not all of you clog together, roll on and take firm root, and from then on grow with grit, flower fruit and seed. May you all be blessed as the best of trees of future generation ‘’
With that we were each thrown away at hairpin bends on valleys deep or just plains at more and more stops along the way. We did have a future mission entrusted to us. May the likes of her increase. When we do make a forest the memory of the apartment and the loving lady will sure remain with us.

    Hi Sathya,

Lovely story.......was wondering what she was collecting....but such a lovely thought of spreading a forest of healthy trees! i wish we think so much when we bring up our own children......that the society needs such healthy citizens and it is our duty to sow the seeds properly!
    keep it up......

    hello sathya

well....i would love to do what my imaginary character did...it takes quite an amount of energy, time. patience to do it. sometimes it can be irritating too...what if there was fungus on the seeds you left out to dry... the rains that drench the dry seeds...the monkeys who have a great days with the seeds almost dry...and sometimes the seeds we keep out to dry do not germinate...maybe because of wrong timing....the days we forget the seeds to be away on the trip.........oh the experience is a new story altogether...

    hello sudha

i do take some seeds with me wherever i go and throw it out...sometimes do forget to take it.. i am yet to visit the same places again to know if that tree ever took root (wonder if there is a way to find out if that is the tree for which i threw the seed?) seeds lay drying everywhere in my garden...my bookshelf, kitchen shelf...sometimes in the bathroom too...

    hello aishu

global warming indeed....but we indians are not cutting as many trees as the others do...look up travel and living channel my god they do build such a lot of stuff with cut wood...that they are interested, cute and jiffy ones is another matter...they have industries that use up the natural resources...we have also caught on with bottled water...talk about global warming and indians can cry.....hey we have not yet started enjoying the bounties and you want us to stop using this and that....!!!!!!! (some dont even have electricity and you want them to change from yellow bulbs to white..ahaha) the aerosol sprays..the AC s ..we shall open up a different thread to go yelling about global warming...
colder in chennai is late this year ...or they say....thai piranthaal tharaiyum kulirum...we have not yet experienced that ...or dry skin and lips...we may be crossing over to summer without the too cold this season para..
