    Hi friends,

    I am Suni, 27 yrs old. Married for more than 2 years. Have been diagnosed with PCOS during last year. We are not planning for a kid right now. But this PCOS is always hanging in my mind like a sword :). I am not obese, not over weight with US standards, my gynaec said she doesnt think I need to reduce my weight, and if we start planning for family, if I dont get pregnant then will consider medication etc. I am 5'4", 137 lbs. which according to Indian stds is a bit overweight. Have gained some where around 12-13 lbs in teh last 2 years. I also have fairly normal 30-32 cycle period. Except for a gap of 64 days when we went for the check up and diagnosed with PCOS.

    As I said I cant help thinking about the PCOS, the possible infertility etc. My husband is very strong and says u excercise regularly, and nothing to worry, and if something goes wrong we will see then. But I cant help thinking about this. Ladies out there could you please share your experiences, advices as well. I am planning to hit the gym more regulary and reduce to 120 lbs. I normally eat healthy, with less oil. But do have sugar cravings in the evening. So the reduction of weight shud be enough? Is there other things that I shud do? Like consulting an endocrinologist now? Or I need to do it later only? My gynaec didnt say anything special, I was the one who was asking more questions about my diet, infertility chances etc. I mostly eat whole grain, more balanced vegeterian food.

    Oh.. wow..congrats on your glorious acheivement !!. and what a hopeful message, good luck if u are trying..

    I have series of questions for you Ridge.

    1. How long have you been working out - silly to ask, i am just starting
    2. Did you go off from your normal diet - cutting down coffee completely?
    3. How would scale the word "rigorus" - 1hour every day or more?..
    4. You don't have to answer this if you wish not to.. Did you even try during that phase of losing weight?.. or was getting yourself ready?

    No question is silly in this forum.All of us had these doubts when we PCOS struck.

    I have been working out for the past 3 months.My weight has reduced from 80kgs to 72 kgs. I follow GM diet every alternate week. Sugarless Coffee(Tried sugar free, came to know aspartme is a suspected carcinogen, so stopped using). No food outside(not even my fav Chat items). All these coupled with 1hr of rigorous workout(10mins walk on tread mill @ 6 Km/h, 20 mins cycling not less than 85RPM, 15 mins rowing(500m), 15mins ab exercise and finish with vibrator belt). I also had the help of fitness instructor. Initially it would be tiring to do without our regular food. But the determination to be fit to borne a baby, got me going.It was exciting to feel ur body more flexible (I was able to sit onthe floor and get up immediately, able to do stretching exercise with ease)

    No Problem in having intercourse during this period.But ovulation didin't occur due to presence of cysts and hormonal imbalance.The moment u have irregular periods, ovulation takes a toll.

    And I didn't forget my folic acid intake all these while.

    Hi All

    I have PCOS for last 4 years.My weight has been stable for many Years with very regular periods.I do remember when I had first been diagnosed with PCOS..That was the first time my periods was delayed and my weight was suddenly increased by 5 Kgs.I do remember that 6 months before Diagnosis I had a lot of stress ,financially and personally .I couldnot speak to anyone or go out ..to relax ..So I feel the main reason to this PCOS is stress and no excersice.

    I did not even know how important is metformin until recently.GayathriSundar, Vanathi and many others have mentioned correctly..

    You should consult a good Fertility Specialist and get your Insulin Resistance checked.In India most of the doctors check only the fasting sugar which is not enough.The 2 hours IRT is important .Then your dosage of metformin is administered. Metformin has sideeffects so many reduce the dose to ease the patients but you have to take the correct dosage as it is very beneficial AND ONLY MEDICINE for PCOS.There is also an Aurvedic medicine to control Sugar levels-HYPONID,which is taken with metformin .It is not a substitute for metformin.

    Your periods might be regular but You might not ovulate.Even if you ovulate,your quality of egg wouldnot be good.

    Taking your Medication and walking just for 1/2hr is enough to reduce weight.If you are OBESE then a low carb Diet is important.

    I was taking a 500mg metformin twice daily.My dose was increased to thrice daily with 4 tablets of HYPONID and my IRT test came to normal within a month.I had lot of stomach upset for a month But later that too stopped.

    The following diet and health program was apparently developed for the employees and the dependants of General Motors Inc.
    The program was developed in conjunction with the grant from the US Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. It was first tried at the Johns Hopkins Research Centre and was approved for distribution by the Board of Directors of General Motors Corporation at a general meeting on August 15, 1995.
    General Motors Corporation wholly endorsed this program and is making it available to all employees and families. This program will be available at all General Motors Food service facilities.
    It is the management’s intention to facilitate a welfare and fitness program for everyone.
    This program is designed for a target weight loss of 5-6 Kgs. per week. It will also improve your attitude and emotions because of its systematic cleansing effects. The effectiveness of this seven day plan is that the foods eaten burn more calories than they give to the body in caloric value. This plan can be used as often as you like to without any fear of complications. It is designed to flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well being. After seven days you will begin to feel lighter by atleast 10 pounds. You will have an abundance of energy and an improved disposition.
    During the first seven days you must drink 10 glasses of water each day.

    Today is another all vegetables day. You must eat 1 cup of rice today and eat all the vegetables you want cooked and uncooked to your heart's content.

    • 23 oz water
    • 06 large onions
    • 02 green peppers
    • 03 whole tomatoes
    • 1 cabbage
    • 1 bunch celery - add herbs and seasoning as desired.
    This program is highly recommended for women and men above 40 for whom excess weight is especially dangerous. Excess weight for women aggravates arthritis problems and leads to rapid joint decay. Pain and joint deterioration can be lessened by weight loss as weight loss removes the stress on the knee joint. Excess weight is the most critical factor in keeping good health and excess weight is responsible for the most problems including coronary diseases, heart problems, arthritis and cancer among other serious life threatening diseases. Most serious health problems can be avoided by the single function of maintaining an ideal weight. Daily mild exercise of 20 minutes is also essential. Do not tire yourself out, but being regular in your exercise and maintaining an ideal weight goes a long way in ensuring a happy, healthy and long life.

    It is important to follow a low GI diet if you have PCOS with Insulin Resistance. Insulin Resistance increases the risk of Type 2 diabetes.

    Usually, your gyno will prescribe Metformin or Glucophage. It is the most underdiagonised problem in women.

    I am recently diagnoised with PCOS and i am very young.
    I have few queries i would be pleased to get your answers.

    1.) Have you ever come across any female who has been cured with PCOS and conceived
    2.) What are the chances of Successful Pregnancy after PCOS
    3.) How long does it take to cure PCOS and what is the duration between the cure and Pregnancy.

    I would be thankful for the females to come forward and ease me!

    How are you?Don’t worry ,you will be fine.PCOS is like BP or Diabeties.It has to be controlled for sometime to get cured. It is not a disease just an hormonal imbalance.

    1.I have come across 2 ladies who have been cured and conceived naturally.
    2.There are good chances.
    3.Many conceive when they have PCOS.Only thing is that it is controlled .The medicines for PCOS are taken for 12 weeks after getting pregnant.

    The msg you sent me was very relaxing and comforted me a lot...
    meantym wat do you??? since you know quiet a lot about this imbalance...and moreover i havent yet consulted the gynac, other than once he declared me with this, coz me being very tensed...but can you temme the mail id or yahoo / Msn id where i can talk to her, who has conceived after the imbalance... pse revert.
