    Hello Mohanawalambe,

Could you PM the doctors email address?.. .
Here is the issue.. and if anyone who comes across this post can provide an answer please do, i'm sure lot of doctors surf this thread too!

I was diagonised with PCOS after i missed periods for about 3 months. I've been on metformin for about 6 months now and my menstrual cylce resumed 3 months back, have had regular cycles for the past 3 months and this month it is 2 days past my due date and i still haven't got one...

My symptoms are similar to PMS like lower abdominal cramps, but i don't have the bloating or gassy feel.

It was very very dissappointing to test negative this morning in the HPT.!!

I'm going through an ordeal trying to figure out what's going on with me?.. Can someone shed some light on my plight??.. Have anyone of you been thorugh this??..

    - S

    Hi Shilpa
As others have mentioned you need to have a diet high in fibre and protein alongwith Metformin when you have PCOS. I was put on metformin 4 years ago. I changed my diet accordingly and would excercise almost an hour everyday. The basic mantra for PCOS regarding food is - white is bad and brown in good.
So white rice is a big no-no and so is white bread. Switch to brown alternatives whenever you can.
If you eat non-veg it becomes a little simpler to include high protein food but a veggie diet is a little more difficult.
Four years ago I controlled my PCOS (had periods every 33rd day without fail) and lost 25 lbs of weight in 7 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To reiterate metformin alone is not going to control PCOS but a good combination of balanced diet and regular exercise is the key.
Check out the diet that pmahensa has given in this forum. Here is the link: http://www.indusladies.com/forums/k...-anyone-lost-20-pounds-lately.html#post213779

It is a very high protein, high fibre, low carb diet. Carb is not an absolute no-no but carbs have to be had in extreme moderation.

When we think of PCOS or diabetes everyone immediately thinks sugar and sweets. But that is not true. All carbs are broken down by the body and converted to sugar which if not metabolised by insulin goes into our blood stream.

My sister is now in the same boat as you are - on metformin, exercising regularly, slight changes in diet - but no regular periods.
Do not lose heart though PCOS is still not fully understood and affects every woman differently.

    GayathriSundar,

Thanks for your response. My question was also related to what are the possibilites for someone on metformin who has had 3 regular cycles and a missed one this month??.( 2 days past my due date).. Should i wait to do another HPT?? ..

I tell you, its sure a rollercoaster of emotional rides!!

    Hi Shilpa,
I would suggest that you wait a week and if your period hasnt arrived yet , then repeat a HPT. Sometimes HPTs can be negative early in pregnancy. Try to do the HPT on an early morning urine sample. (I am a doc though not an endo). Good luck!

Thanks Vanathi!.. Will do so. I understand that every pregnancy is different, but can't stop my curiosity... Is it possible not to ovulate after 3 months of regular mestruation? along with 2 negative pregnancy test??..

Yes Shilpa. it is possible to not ovulate for a mnth even if the previous 3 cycles were regular. If you are not pregnant then I guess you need to continue medication/diet/exercise and wait for next mnth. It will work out soon - dont worry.

    Dear friends

I was also diagonised for PCOS. But now after rigorous workouts, diet, medicines and doc's guidance, now the scan shows that cysts have burst. This month my periods came without any medicine. As a regular, my FSH study also shows that I have ovulated this month. I had HmG injection on the 9th day and HcG after ovulation on the 15th day.I was given Letroz (2-9 days) and now on duphaston (from 15th day).DOc says there are chances of conceiving this month and asked me to come on 45th day, if I miss my periods.

But still, the best is yet to come. This forum has given me strength to fight PCOS.Very healthy discussions, good tips...

    Don't lose hope.:cheers.

    Love
