    My dear friends,

Many of the people in the universe would have heard about TIRUPUR, the knit city of India.

As the needs of all walks of life when it comes to knitted fabrics like Banians, Underwears, Bra's, T shirts and Ready made garments which are being manufactured from Tirupur.

Although Tirupur is a small city when compared to Coimbatore ( Manchestor of South India ), it is the centre of Tamilnadu's Cotton knitwear industry catering the needs of Domestic & International requirements.

It is called the Knits Capital Of India as it caters to famous brands and retailers from all over the World.
Nearly every buyer of knitting in the World comes to Tirupur.

It has a wide range of factories which Exports all types of Knits fabrics & garments.

The Industry provides employments for more than 7,00,000 people and Exports touching nearly Rs.11,000 crores as on today.

Total sales of Knitted fabrics is about Rs.1000 Billions per year.

Every Year it grows @ 20% as most of the Industries have modernized their plants with Imported machinerise to suit the global requirements.

Leading Global Brand leaders like Walmart, Switcher, Diesel, Army, Tommy Hifiger, M & S, FILA, H & M, Pink Lemonade, HTHP,Whale, Reebok, VALUE, PitScop, RESPECT, T-Mart, PGC, Regency apart from local brands VIP, T-WOODS, Dixcy, Lux outsource their requirements from here.

Now the state of arts Technological knit wear complex of International Standards " Nethaji Apparel Park " also established its presence to cater more needs of the Global players for their Ready made garments.

The credit goes to TEA Tirupur Exporters Association under its president Mr.A.Sakthivel with nearly 647 life members & 155 associate members.

It is known fact that any one comes for employments is assured of a job in Tirupur.

Workers from WestBengal, Orissa, Andhra, Maharashtra, Karnataka, UP, Bihar, Kerala, Nepal, Rajasthan, MP, and Tamilnadu are employed.

The main Export markets being USA, Europe and other overseas countries apart from Domestic markets.

Now the recent trends of Rupee getting stronger ( @ Rs.39.11 ) against Dollar has driven the exporters to suffer losses due to Uncompetitive realisations of investments.( yester years value of Rs. 42 per $ )

Erosion of Rupee Value losses against Dollar is worry-some for the exporters and now it is ideal to deal in Euros for the exports than that of Dollar.

The RBI or Government of India is not taking steps to the woes of exporters and it will definitly erode the exporters confidence and reduce exports thereby loss of revenue.

In that case all the efforts of industries to export market will collapse, and the buyers will turn their attentions to China, Bangladesh, Indonisia, Taiwan and Pakistan for their requirements.

Hope our Industry will survive against these competitions and obstacles.

    hi subbu sir,

Quite true. Unless the government takes some measures it is going to be more testing times....

Already the economic conditions, labour cost are chasing away buyers to bangladesh, china.....so urgent remedies are called for..hope the government does something.

Veda's uncle closed down his unit in tirupur due to the losses....

Thank you dear Shanvy for the observations and feedbacks about Tirupur knitwear industries plight.

Sorry to note our friend veda's uncle closed his unit, may be labour problems and cost of productions led to less profitablity to run the industry forced him to take this decision.

In business, we have to concentrate on variety of products and customers, so that any given time we will be able to run the unit without much problems.

As such the sluggishness in movement of goods, yarn prices and export crunch, it is better to switch over to value added garments & fabrics to fetch better profits.

    Subbu

    Hi Subbu Sir,

A nice writeup about Tiruppur. My cousin has been connected to Tiruppur for more than a decade, now. So, has been getting updates from him. It is sad that the business is dull in there. There is always something new which surprises us in every visit to Tiruppur.
