The day began as usual, I got into my car , turned on the radio and started. The news on radio said another very cold cloudy day with temps not crossing 28F and probably that we won’t see the Sun until tomorrow. However, I was looking forward to seeing all my silent partners - I have been training for a mini marathon for a month now till a week ago when almost everyone at home came down with a bad case of colds, coughs and fevers and my training came to a screeching halt!

So here I was back again. I parked and started walking toward the gym and spotted my bald (by choice) friend. He gave a curt nod in acknowledgement and a little smile that read to me – ‘there you are’. I knew he would have started early and must be left with another 10mins, when his friend joined him. I was sure then that I had company for another 20mins at least! The thin young girl, running faster than a cheetah was going on at her usual pace! The tall big guy looking like he is running at a slow pace but is covering incredible distance was busy with his MP3 player and his running. I got on to my machine and started my day. I saw two more get on and start the running - must be new I thought. Now it was fun running because there were six of us running trying to keep up our own goals. But where is my friend? She is nowhere in the gym – she usually works at more than 3 machines. Ah there she is coming towards the treadmill! My petite friend who has been walking along side me silently joined me and lo behold instead of walking, started running that too at a fast pace! I was quite surprised that there was such a fast runner behind that fast walker and here I have been training for a month and doing a mile/14mins – did she pick up in the last week I have been away? Has she been training outside? How can it be? It so cold! . A few more musings and a couple of thoughts about my kids and a few more smiles, I knew I must have covered most of my distance and was panting and pushing to reach my target when I suddenly saw the moon peep out of the clouds – it was not as cloudy after all! and he seemed to say ‘come to my land and you will feel lighter’. But I knew I am here and I need to loose my best friend of 5years – my last 15pounds. So I completed my work out and when I got home, it was quiet. I smiled, .it was time to wake up the hubby and kids and get them ready for their day.

    Dear Sabitha,
Wonderful presentation!!! Because of your musings there came a fantastic post . You have made me do the walking along with you my friend or can I say daughter !!
Early morning, empty stomach walks, are a huge savior when it comes to anyone wanting to lose weight. These walks, I credit, for keeping my weight “in check.” They were a big part of my weight loss, and now they work to keep the weight off. They offer so much. It’s not only about weight loss, it’s about empowering ourselves, finding our deeper focus, dealing with emotions, feelings and thoughts, helping ease depression, knowing we can accomplish the things we want, etc. I’ve learned, everything I want and consider doing, begins with a walk. Anything on my mind or I need to deal with, begins with a walk. I’m in much better control of my life, and it all started with a walk.

The many ways in which this morning’s walk is similar to our life walk. Sometimes we walk our life journey with others and sometimes, most times, we are alone.Am I correct?

Oh knbg, Thank you for your response. Now I am all smiles, a little surpirsed and in wonder as well. of course that walking has led me to me running now and that is a whole different story. And Bhargavi while I still wonder about the moon, I no longer about the weight part for I know what I have gained by just keeping up and improving!

Thank you Padmini aunty for that honour. I certainly feel blessed today!

Very very beautifully put aunty and how very true! As I re-read this post of mine, I realised the long way I have come in my own writing with that simple step of just penning down a few words, then! And you know what else surprised me, all this happened just three years ago and the innumerable changes in my own life since then have been tremendous - writing wise, reading wise, learning wise, the number of freinds I have earned through this site and guess what even running/walking wise - the number of marathons that I have run and am stilll working on!! Now, I am thankful for the revival of this old thread - it brought out a sense of what it has been like the past three years.

So my thank you is that much more heart felt Padmini aunty for your response and the warmth in it!

I will certainly do so Kamalji just that your best friend doesnot want to come to me for 'he' knows that once he comes, he will disappear and that is why he is sticking close to you! So you enjoy with him - he loves you so!! and all that yummy meat - who wants to be with this ghaas poos eating person? :)

That is very sweet of you Kamalji - like I have always said, I do enjoy reading what you write! Seeing less of you these days but I know you will be back!

Thank you Kamlaji for your feedback!
