Didn’t you ever want to gift something to someone, but would never find a cute paper bag to pack it?? It happens to me all the time!! Hence I thought of posting a tutorial for making a gift bag using newspaper, which will be helpful in gift packing.
Recycling things is the need of the hour today so rather than spending your money on pricey paper bags, recycle newspapers and make these bags.

    Materials required:
    2 sheets of newspaper
    Stapler
    Ball pen
    1 shoe lace
Sharp object like screwdriver (to make hole for the lace)
    Water colors
    Brush

    Instructions:

    Take two sheets of newspaper.

Fold the newspaper in half and staple the entire length of the side, where the ends meet. See to it that you staple as close to the edge as possible and the distance between two staples should not be more than 2 cms or later you will have a problem folding the bag. (The way I had! I had to unstaple and open the bag again.. Duh!! :bonk)

    2.jpg

On the side that you have stapled, make a fold of 4 cms from the edge, press it hard so that the creases are properly visible. After that, flip the fold in the opposite direction along the same crease and press hard. Do the same thing for the other side of the newspaper.

Now if you put your hand inside the opening, on both the sides you will see three creases. Push the middle crease inside to make the fold and press hard. Repeat the same for the other side.

    3.jpg

After that, make a small fold of 1 cm on the open side which has loose paper edges; and staple the fold to the paper along the entire length.

By doing this you are making sure that the bag is now sealed with only one opening left at the top.

Now on the side that you have just stapled, make a fold of 5 cms from the edge, press it hard so that the creases are properly visible. Do not flip the fold in the opposite direction.

    6.jpg

Put your hand inside the bag and make a flat bottom based on the creases. This is the base of your bag.

    7.jpg

Once the base is formed, make a fold of 4 cms on the top side of the bag.It should be on the opposite side in which you have folded the below part (so that when the final bag is ready, both the folds should not come on one side but should be on the opposite sides).

Using a ballpen, mark 2 holes at the distance of 4 cms from the sides on the top of the fold (where you will later insert the lace). Make a hole on those marking using a screwdriver.

Starting from the back of the bag, Insert one end of the shoe lace in one hole and the other end in the other hole, make a cute bow and tada :thumbsup….Your newspaper gift bag is ready.

Now that the bag is ready, its time to decorate it. Using the water colors, I made hearts on the bag to decorate it. You can make stars, flowers or anything that you wish.
