For the past one week my daughter was having a high fever and severe cold. The Paediatrician whom we consulted examined her and told that there is a chest cold and infection in the lower respiratory tract. Prescribed her Nebulization process. Though my daughter ( knowing the angel she is) was very comfortable in wearing the face mask and underwent the treatment quiet bravely, I was very scared of the whole process. This is the first time I have had a first hand experience with Nebulization process though have heard about it. I am very disturbed about the side effects of Nebulization if any.

    Dear ILites,
Have you had similar experience, please share your views on the Nebulization process and how safe it is for a 4 year old baby.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

    Hi laxmi
Hope ur daughter ( little angel ) is well & now & I WISH HER A SPEEDY RECOVERY.U need not worry abt nebulizer therpy as it is very safe ,very little drugs are needed as they act directly on target organs that is lungs & bronchi ,No or very minimal side effects if any.It is not painful.
It is better than giving drugs by injection or orally.
It is standred & preferrred mode in children with respiratory problems.
    Dont worry.

    Hi Laxmi,

Hope the little one is feeling better. Through I have not used Nebilizer myself, it is a very safe method. My younger one also gets respiratory tract infections fairl often, and Her they have given him the " aerochamber" to be used with the medication. A little more easier to use than the nebulizer, but the strategy is the same. You get to inhale the medicine so it can go and fight the infection directly. Initially he was scared to use it, but now he has fun. So much so that even when he is well, he wants to use it if he sees it!!.

There are no side effects using the nebulizer, it is just a more effective way of giving the medication to the kids. Just remember that if she has a coughing bout or vomits, stop the treament and then once she is okay start over again.

She will be well soon. Also ask your doc about using the Aerochamber instead of the nebulizer. it is much more portable.

    Dear Laxmi,

It is always painful to see the little ones suffer. Hope your little baby gets better very soon. Kiss her from me.
As for nebulizer, I think you have received enough info here. So don't worry, go ahead and use it as it is very effective and better than swallowing medicines.
Unfortunately, our little grandson too has respiratory infections and besides, he seems to be slightly asthmatic. Hope he will grow out of it. He has been using nebulizer and other inhalators 'regularly'. :( It is safe and helps him to recover quickly.

    L, Kamla

    Dear Laxmi,

I wish the lil princess recovers fast and is back to fighting fit. It is really sad to see a lil child suffering from respiratory difficulty. But yours has taken to the treatment well and I am sure, she will be fully fine soon.

    hi laxmi,

Your little angel should be feeling better. believe me , from a chronic wheezer, and a mother of a wheezer. my DS has been nebulized from when he was a 2 months baby..your pd..is doing his job well. initially the mask and his crying used to make us cry...but after the nebulization when he was sleeping peacefully we understood it was for his good. and nebulization acts faster than the other drugs and is very safe.

Nebulization, is done along with the medicine and oxygen. MY PD says oxygen is a must. i suppose now it is a norm. because before lot of hospitals were nebulizing without the oxygen.

Regarding the aerochamber mentioned by vandhana, goes as Spacehaler in india. and is good and safe method for using at home. but if your child has got this problem just because of the infection it is better doing the nebulization at the hospital rather than at home. the space haler is useful, if she is prone to breathing problems.

Will definitely pray for your angel.

    Hi Vandhana,
To be frank Aditi was not at all uncomfortable to put the Nebulizer mask, only thing is that I was very worried about it. As soon as the Nebulizer therapy was over she went happily to play in the hospital play area.
I have not heard of Aerochamber and I hope there is no need to use it in future for Aditi.
Thanks a lot Vandhana, your words just gives me a lot confidence to handle Aditi to cope with her illness.

    Dear Kamla,
Thanks a lot for your kisses and wishes for Aditi.
Very true, the little ones suffering brings our confidence level down and just tears our heart to see them suffering. More than anything I want my daughters to have a very healthy living.
Hope your grandson too come out of his asthmatic condition soon and praying God that his immunity level increases to combat the condition.
