    dear Cheeni Sir,

I always read, admire, enjoy your threads and posts and whatever I would like to quote or comment, my friends would have done that already.:queen I can only admire since dont have age to appreciate..........

First time I got a chance to open my mouth....... :cheers

I really wonder when I come across such cynics..........
As per my analysis those who are the people with so many defects not physically mentally..... and since they dont wanna be cynicised by others they themselves turn to be one so that others will not have time to find fault in them since on seeing them everyone would fled away or try to keep their mum shut (edhuku vambu vai kuduthu vangi kattikanum).........

So i look at them and feel for them as they or mentally handicapped........
Its nothing else but their mental disability to cope up with their environment and flourish so they end up with becomg cynics.............

its as simple as that when they are unable to do what you do which they wanted to do the easiest thing for them to do is find faults with what you do.....

so the least thing in the world these cynics could do is what they are doing already as cynics........... so let them do and go to hell or heaven........ its their choice.......

we have nothing to do with that since we have better things to accomplish.......... and one and only thing what cud we do is not to be one among them.

    cynics are

Mullu chedigal madhiri avanga namma padhaila varalam
aiyo mullu kandu odhunga mudindhal odhungi namma vazhila polam if it is unavoidable
those mullus or not useless gather them together and use them as our fence..............:idea

    shakeheadshakehead

    regards,
    Vidya

    Dear Vidya
That's a very nice summing up of cynicism but I am afraid that you may have based it on your perception of the modern day cynic. I must tell you that the cynics have a hoary past and an illustrious ancestry. As the Stoic philosopher Epictetus wrote several centuries after the first cynic was noted, "A Cynic is a spy who aims to discover what things are friendly or hostile to man; after making accurate observations, he then comes back and reports the truth."

Cynics have been making those observations and reporting the truth ever since. The ancient Cynics have turned to dust, but their successors have carried on nobly in their spirit. Great names like Juvenal, Rabelais, Swift,
Voltaire and Mark Twain have used the classic Cynics' tools -- bitter irony, biting sarcasm and mirthful ridicule -- to expose the follies of their times as well as the timeless foibles of humankind.

I should say that the specimens who go around as cynics today are a blot on their noble ancestry. If a thoroughbred cynic in the mould of Antisthenes existed today, this is how his diary would read,
"What a sadly maligned and misunderstood tribe we are! Cynicism, after all, prings not from cruelty or viciousness, but from precisely the opposite: a fatal love of virtue. If we were mere realists, we'd have no need for
cynicism; the world would never disappoint us because we'd expect so little of it. But the best cynics are still idealists under their scarred hides. We wanted the world to be a better place, and we can't shrug off the disappointment when it lets us down. Our cynicism gives us the painful power to behold life shorn of its sustaining illusions!"

    Dear Cheeni sir,

I fully agree with you............ If ancient type of cynics are still existing ofcourse we need them for a better world........ but modernday cynics???????????

if cynics are surgeons and knows to handle knife for surgery and for murder......... if he handles the knife for a surgery then its for someones well being but whats the use if he uses the same knife to kill someone.........

how to identify when you see a cynic (surgeon) with a knife if he is holding the knife for a surgery or for murder..........

    regards
    Vidya

    Dear Vidya
You have raised a very pertinent point. If someone with highly malicious intentions masquerades as a cynic, it would be well nigh impossible to expose him.
If a diabolic killer goes around as a surgeon, he'll soon be caught but if a surgeon decides to be a killer, he'll have a free run!
I find it difficult to answer your question!

    Dear Cheeniya Sir,

I think we need cynics in our midst. If everyone was good and nice, then the world will be a boring place. We will not know the value of a kind soul if a cynic was not in our midst. The negativity of a cynic can spur a person to change his own views towards the positive.

At some point or other, everyone is a cynic. May be not the extreme form of cynic like the ancient Greeks were. But the modern cynic who looks scornfully at others. The modern form of cynicism seems to be related to jealousy. A momentary cynic is tolerable. A habitual cynic - press the Esc button if you spot them.

    Dear Vidya
Equating a terrorist with a cynic is blasphemy! A genuine cynic nurses a grievance against the wrong doers and pompous dimwits. He ceaselessly voices his indignation against them but will never take to arms. A terrorist on the other hand has a personal agenda in the pursuit of which he may slay any number of people.
A cynic is a watchdog but a terrorist is the Big Bad Wolf!

    Dear Nivedi
If cynics can take the role of just garnishing our otherwise dull life, they are most certainly welcome. But if the garnishing is going to spoil the dish, then it is best avoided. I agree with you there!
It is an interesting thought linking jealousy to cynicism. The matter certainly requires deeper introspection. Again, the momentary cynic and the habitual one is a new concept. Dont press the Esc until I find out the difference between the two!

    Enjoyed reading your post, Sir.

I think ADD plays a major role here, as we all know it is Attention Deficit Disorder.
Those people need attention and only attention to them, to their words and their activities. They want to have control on any situation or people.

It is true that each and every family has one, who spoil the sport. It is their pleasure, isn't it! otherwise how can they be called 'cynic'.
