Hi! I can only help you with the first question... I'm not from the US:) Our Indian post-delivery diet (whatever your mom or grandmom knows) is good enough to ensure that you don't eat foods that creates gas in you and the child. Drink lots of water (this is usually contradicted by our elders). In Germany we get a tea (herbal one) specially for breast-feeding mothers. Try in pharmacy or natural shops if you get something like that. For me it helped a lot. and once the baby starts suckling your body itself takes the cue and produces enough milk. Yes, first and foremost don't get stressed if there are initially any problems with feeding. It takes a time for you and the baby to understand the process... for me it took 2 weeks and after that i breast-fed my boy until a year. All the best with your delivery:)

    Hi

Well you got the answer for your first question from our friend. I did almost most of what she said and it worked for me for more than a year with my son.

Now regarding the citizenship, once the child is born you apply for his SSN, passport and he gets his citizenship. There is nothing like a timeframe that the child need to be here to get it. Also DUAl citizenship does NOT apply for kids who are born here in the US. It only applies to people like us(Immigrants) who stay here for so many years and get our citizenship. We can apply for a dual citizenship with the Consulate of India here.

Also you get a tons of convertible cribs for a very low price. Check your local stores and also on the internet. I will tell you if i find any.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your Delivery..Enjoy..

    Hi friend,

Couple of more points that crossed my mind:

    1. It's inevitable that a baby cries when the mother is eating or wants to answer nature's call:) Even now my son (2.5 yrs old) wants to distract me in some way only on these two occasions. Since I gave birth in India, my mom or dad always made sure to take out the crying baby out of my sight while I'm eating. Remember even the safety tip in aircraft asks you to give yourself the oxygen mask first then to the child:idea so don't panic if the baby cries.. (but trust me all mothers find their own way of handling such situations!)
    2. Have your own favorite spot (sort of quiet and no humanly disturbance) for feeding the baby. Ofcourse sometimes when I am outside I've fed him in malls etc., but even then there are these quiet feeding places. Always seat yourself in a comfortable position. I didn't quite catch this in the first few days but later it really helped.
    4. Don't wear perfume or flowers... they always distract the baby from the task.
    5. I don't mean to discourage you with this comment.... each body, system is different. So if you experience problem with lactation... i.e. if your milk is not enough etc., don't ever feel guilty. Take a doctor's guidance and advice.

Hi Sailaja, for our son we got only the convertible. bassinets can be used only until certain stage. the convertible we find very useful... it's safe for the small baby and later you can just remove the outer railings and it's a single bed for kids.

best thing to take while breast feeding is methi, eat a lot of methi ,u can cook methi n then mix 2 tbs in a glass of milk, with sugar n drink daily initially n later after 2-3 mnths tke it once or twice a week,it really helps,u can even feed upto 2 yrs if u want.
