    Hello Ladies,

Just a small heads-up...I have seen the following advice being circulated on most of the IL threads on infertility, particularly the last part on DHEA:

"To make an IUI successful for conception, I received the following tips from my friend who is an accupuncturist and naturopath who practices ayurveda and traditional chinese medicine.

    1. Completed bedrest for 4-5 days after your IUI. This is to conserve your body's energy so that it can concentrate on conception.
    2. No excercise except light walking for 2 weeks after IUI.
    3. Eat lots of protein rich foods. In moderation, eat eggs, soya and chicken products, You can drink milk and whey protein products and eat lots of nuts and seeds such as sunflower, walnuts, almonds etc. Aim for atleast 75 gms of protein a day. Your body needs the protein to help the egg fertilization process and help the egg implant properly into the uterus.
    4. Keep a positive frame of mind and pray to god to help you at this time.
    5. Do breathing excercises or light yoga and imagine the egg being fertilized and implanting properly in your uterus and having a healthy and safe pregnancy.
    6. Drink lots of water, atleast 8-10 glasses a day, preferably at room temperature.
    7. After the IUI, keep your stomach covered and protected from wind for atleast a week. Your womb needs to stay warm to aid conception.
    8. Even before your IUI, start taking a pre-natal vitamin and a DHEA supplement. The DHEA supplement is especially important for vegetarians as it contains Omega 3 fatty acids that aid greatly in conception and maintaining a healthy pregnancy. Additionally, studies have shown that babies whose mothers took DHEA during their pregnancy score higher on IQ tests as kids that those whose mothers did not take the supplement."

DHEA is NOT an omega-3 or fish oil supplement. It is a hormone supplement that greatly increases a woman's chances of conception, especially when preparing for IUI or IVF/ICSI. I have a low ovarian reserve and the doctor has advised me to get started on a DHEA supplement. I see a lot of women on this forum (even the pharmacists!) confusing this with DHA, which is found in fish oil and acts as a good omega-3 supplement. While both are good, DHEA must be taken under doctor's consultation as one must be aware of certain side effects. The doc should also prescribe the right dosage based on your medical history, whereas omega-3 supplements can be taken without too many concerns. Overall, DHEA has been quite successful and am looking forward to taking it for 3 months before i contemplate any assisted conception treatment. Just thought i'll let you all know the difference so that you can make an informed decision.

P.S: Couldn't find DHEA supplements in any of the pharmacies in Bangalore...finally got hold of a guy through Cash Pharmacy who says it's imported and will cost around 1000 bucks per bottle. Yikes! My monthly medicines are almost equaling an IUI cycle! :drowning

    God bless,
    Carol

    Dear Bhavani,

Thats very sad :( in such cases they should cancel IUI for that cycle and ask us to IC atleast ... there is no meaning in doing IUI when ever they can...Finally we are the one who will be in loss both in mentally and financially... :spin

Thats very bad ,one thing they should keep in mind that they have jobs and earning money only because of people like us... why dont you complain your Doc/RE about that nurse being so rude ??

good that you are satisfied with your IUI timing.... :) god will definitely help you out ....

thanks bhavani for all your soothing words.. sure i will eat your brain if i have any questions....:) would you mind if i ask you which part of US you staying??? I live in NW part of US....
I have crossed my fingers for you to get BFP this time.... :thumbsup.. ..good luck and baby dust..

    thanks for all the words.

my mom is recovering slowly. today when i went to the hospital to see her, she was singing and all the nurses and wardboys had surrounded her. i felt happy to see her spirit. but the recovery will be very gradual. doc said that it'll take her atleast 2 months for her to stand and start walking. dunno how my sis will manage taking care of her. i am close by but can't be thr all the time.

dh is recovering too and hopold me abt hopefully will be okay in another 2-3 days. am already waitin for the weekend

all these things kept me so occupied that i never got time to lookout for a good fertility specialist. the one swati23 told me abt is too far. our office has shifted further outskirt from the city so ever more difficult to commute. moreover the rains have made the traffic a mess already.

we did try natually last time but no results. this time we managed one day and next day we got the news abt perima's illness so had to rush to the in-laws place. feel sad for her as she didn't have any children and dh is the only son to take care of his parents and perima peripa. anyways i am sure she wanted to see her grandkids and now that she's gone she should tell god to send her grandkids to us fast :)

all the best to all the ttc friends.

priyanka. ur time is approaching fast :) u must be excited now. a warm hug to u and the little angel :)

    god bless

    Hi Swati,
Hope you had a good time at sister's marriage.
Injectable IUI means where you take follicle stimulating injections rather than tablets like clomid or letroz. I think these injections are hormone mixtures which acts on ovaries to produce more mature follicles and eggs. It is expected to give good results when clomid or letroz doesn't work.
Two of my iui's were with injectable. One iui was with Letroz plus injections. Depending on the follicle growth it will be prescribed for 5 to 8 days. Yes its costly but its fine until it gives you good results.
    All The best to you.

Baby dust to all the friends here.
    Bye.

    Hi vasu

Sorry if I hurt you by asking questions. Take care of your health. Will update once i return from hospital.

Only god knows when to give.

    Hi priyanka

My DH is also suffering from cold, cough, and fever. Now he is okay. today is my 3rd day, having an appointment with doctor today. You know we have been trying from the day of marriage (6 years), but all failures. Now i am somewhat stress free from TTC, but my DH is worrying about it.

I am also planning to go to chennai for a trip, will try to meet chennai IL friends.

Priyanka, Days are nearing, you are going to hold your LO soon. We will be happy to hear that. :thumbsup

    Hi lucky

Nice to hear that your mom is recovering and sorry to hear about your periyamma.

Will pray for you to get BFP soon.
