I have got my IUD - copper - fitted about 8 weeks ago. Last week, I went for my follow-up with my gyn. To my utter surprise, she told me that my threads have been "sucked up" into my cervix. She confirmed that the IUD is still in place by "poking" around (which was uncomfortable). I am not feeling good about this, as the threads are the only way that I have to check if it's still there. And I'm worried about what I will have to go through when I need it removed. She told me to come back at my annual check-up (which is about 4 months away). I am seriously thinking about having it removed. Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, how did you deal with the situation?

    HI

dekapai,I think you should have clarified it to your gyn itself, she would have told you the pro's and con's if any,and if you have had to remove it or else.Living with a doubt is awful I know,so you should have confirmed things at the earliest.

A few years back when I wanted it removed 1 gyn checked through and told me that the threads were missing and there's no IUD in there!!
I somehow, was not impressed by her totally and re-consulted an other gyn immediately who removed it and showed this to me(I didn't anyway tell her the other gyn's response)and things went alright.

Consult your gyn or call her up and be sure.

Thank you Pinky for your suggestion. In your case when did you have the IUD inserted ? For how long did you have it ?

Hi dekapai (nice name;-) ....teehee )

After our first child, I had my DH use a condom to avoid pregnancy for the past 3-4 years. But as we missd the real pleasure ,I had the Cu T iud put
in me 4 months back. Everything was fine, I went to my half yearly
check up and my Dr. said
everything was ok. Actuallly after the 2nd month itself my hubby had said he couldn't feel the
strings during sex but my dr. said that it was
normal !!! Shortly after the check up too my husband
again said that he couldn't "Feel" the
strings during our IC. I tried to check for
myself, heck I even had him try but no
luck. So i called my dr. and they had me
come in. And guess what? She couldn't
find them either, so they scheduled a
ultrsound and x-ray appointment for me
& I went, a week later my dr. calls and
says that my iud is missing! I am so
pissed......how cud it just pop out of me without me realising it ?? She had the nerve to ask if i
    wanted another one put back
in....ummm no i'll just stick with the pill rather

    Dear dekapai,

When was the last that you had your periods ? Chances are that you might be able to locate the iud after you have had your periods. I too went through a similar situation - not once but twice - :biglaugh - but each time I would be able to catch up with the darned threads after I had menstruated. I was told that the cervix opening goes in - out motion during this period when the thread get trapped ... huhh ... So my suggestion is that you give it a try after you have menstruated. Please dont lose hope, you still can get a doctors expertise even of its still missing

    Luv

    Hi Pinky,

Thnx for the concern you showed.
I am still searching ..... I have even
asked my husband to help in this search.
I am embarrassed, frustrated, and feel
humilated. I think perhaps my threads
are short, and my fingers are rather
short, so perhaps I can't feel high
enough. So besides me or my hubby, the 3rd option is to call the doctor again, but
thought I would search the internet and
came across this wonderful source of
people to talk with. I think I might as
well just wait until I get my period and
see if I can find them after my period. I think your cervix turns in
and out, so maybe the threads do get
caught in that opening. I am tired of
going to the doctors and the expense
and quite frankly not looking forward to
the discomfort of searching for the
    threads at the doctors.
