    My story

We had the reception the previous day along with the nichyadartam.
For reception, me had put beads on hair and wore lehenga
After reception, the beautician had told me to apply oil for hair so that next day making the traditional south Indian style hairdo.
I asked my father for coconut oil. He gave it to me in a katori (a large one from the kitchen which they would have used for serving side dishes).

All ladies were gathered in the room chatting away, I started applying oil..I kept doing it for sometime, when suddenly my mami (mama’s wife) shrieked ..aioo..enna pannare...so much oil...
My mom went al hyper, you will get a high temperature this that...commotion started.

Men sleeping in the hall heard and my father came in and asked what happened...My mom explained it quite dramatically to him.

He went outside and got lots of newspapers. All the ladies started rubbing my hair with newspaper to remove the excess oil. My mami , pulled my head to her leg and started rubbing it..
OMG!!! It was so crazy and if I opened my mouth to say something, all the ladies started talking all at once!!!

It was quite a drama and it was around 12.30 pm before I was allowed to sleep 

I guess with all the makeup and what not, gals have more such stories.
It was simple and no mess for me, since no makeup, no nothing. I like it that way :thumbsup

Ok, this is not something that happened at my wedding, but my sister's. (I cannot pinpoint one single incident from my wedding as the entire wedding is quite memorable :thumbsup)

My sister was getting ready for the reception in her room on the first floor. It was around 6.30 pm. My cousin's daughter (my first mama's granddaughter, who was about 18 or so then) was roaming around the hall wearing her pavadai and dhavani. It is worth mentioning that my sister and my 'niece' look similar (almost like twins). My grandfather had a room on the ground floor. He came out to see my 'niece' palying with another little 'nephew'. He promptly went to her and said 'kalyana ponna lakshanama dress pannikama enna inga vilayadara??'..(What are you doing here without getting dressed like a responsible bride). She was stunned for a minute and promptly told him 'thatha, en kalyanam podhu dhan adha pathi kavala padanum, ippo ennoda athai ku dhane kalyanam' ...(I need to worry about that only when I am getting married, as of now it is only my 'aunt's' wedding).. He had no words to say, and my dad's sister put him right. To this day, we have a good laugh whenever I see my 'niece' (My mom is the youngest of a hu.......ge family. So i have too many cousins, many of them married with children and some with grand children too!!)

My husband says his most cherished memory of our wedding (apart frm the actual tying of the knot) is that of walking around the mandapam (hall) with my dad the night before the wedding. Both of them could not sleep and spent the time walking around the hall. My dad talking about his 'little' girl and he listening enraptured!!

This happened before our wedding. Our muhurtham was between 9.30 and 10.15 on a Monday. So it was decided that we had to start the oonjal before 7.30 (as it was Rahu kalam between 7.30 and 9.00 AM) as that way we would have enough time to enjoy it and also that I would have enough time to change to my madisaar. My dad is a stickler for punctuality. If he said that we had to be ready by 6.00, we should be ready by 5.55 at least. He told me that I was to come down at 7.10 or latest by 7.15. So there I was all decked up and ready with the heavy saree and jewellery at 7.10 (I am daddy's girl :D) only to find out that my husband-to-be was not ready!! He was not ready until about 7.40... There I was all ready, but the groom was not. My mama was teasing saying that 'enga athu mappilai ku enga athu ponna pathu bayam, adhan velila vara mattengarar' (Our son-in-law is scared of our girl, that is why he is scared to come out :p) We went for the oonjal after taht. (Our punditji made me start the ritual before 7.30. He still teases me saying that I am probably the only girl who did that alone :p) I still tease him saying that usually the bride is late but in our case, it was the groom. (He was late even for the reception...)

And this happened after the wedding. We had to go to his parents' place after the wedding for the 'grihapravesam' (inviting the bride into her matrimonial home) and then onwards to my parents' place as well. In between the visits we had planned to get the marriage registration done. His parents live a bit far from where got married. (About 45 minutes drive on a good day, with off peak traffic). Around 4 pm we were sat outisde the Registrar's office in all our wedding finery (me in the madisar and he in his veshti.) At least I had got rid of the heavy hair-do much to the anguish of my mom who spent about an hour getting my hair done..(she still complains about it to my mom-in-law about this.). The Registrar's office is situated along the sea shore (though the sea is actually not visible because of all the buildings) and the road is quite busy one. So there we were sat with the clothes outside with our parents and two aunts. My aunt saw that I was not happy about this and said maybe we would like to walk on the beach..my husband turned to her and said, 'athai, enaku unga marumaala kuttindu beach ku poganum aasai dhan, aana indha veyil la illa' (Aunty, I would love to take your niece to the beach, but not in this hot sun). After the formalities were over, we went on to my parents' place and then finally back to the mandapam at 5.45, when the reception was for 6.30. (for which he was late again!!)

    skalluri,

Thank you. My husband still teases my dad saying 'how could you say all this and trust that I would not run away :p??' and my dad goes, 'that was why I was walking with you, to make sure that you dont run away :biglaugh:biglaugh'

Most memorable/embarrassing incident took place at our wedding reception. We got married in the morning and had our reception at night. We were told to wait in a separate room until all the guest have arrived so that they can formally introduce us as husband and wife. So we were in a room together alone, and my husband got that look in his eyes, the look he always have when he is about to do something naughty. I really should have run away form the room then but I didn't. He came near me and started hugging and kissing me. I protested so much but he did not listen. I was wearing a saree, and he just messed it up so badly. He ruined my makeup and my clothes. I literally had a panic attack. I tired to fix as much as I can but I couldn't. He just kept laughing at me. Finally my cousins and few of my aunts came into the room and saw how I looked. They all just laughed at me. One of my aunt was like what happened and all I can think to say was, I accidentally tripped, that's why I look like this. And one of my aunt goes like "we all have tripped like this one point in our life" and just kept laughing.

Tank God the makeup lady, who happened to be my friend's sister was still there and fixed everything for me. My cousins told everybody what happend and everyone just kept teasing me all night long.

Even though it was embarrassing, it is still such a beautiful memory.:)
