    Hi Indians,

Recently this week, there was an exhibition in Delhi displaying the ultra modern Toilets that are eco-friendly, water saving etc. There was a participation from more than 35 countries all over the world for this event.

In India, there is a lack of good public sanitation facilities especially in tourist spots and crowded areas.

    Just an idea struck me..

How abt Mobile Toilets with wash room facilities getting installed in chennai beach shores and tourist spots like ooty, kodai and Event management locations?

I am sure some one from IL may explore this..and put it as a proposal to chennai corporation or tourism ministry or to sanitaryware vendors like parryware and others.

    Advantages:
    -----------

    1. Provides a very clean ultra hygienic toilet, wash room facilities for ladies and gents separately.

    2. Pay per use. (Rs. 2 - urinal, Rs.5 - bathroom)
After playing in the beach or a morning walk, junta can take a shower or simply change clothes before proceeding directly to Restaurents/Office etc.

    3. Composite type toilets so that the waste is collected in a tank and can be shipped separately.

    4. Electrical facilities (using solar energy + power) with lights, centralised music, ac, heater and accessories vending machines like shampoo, soaps, napkins etc.

    5. Toilets on wheels so that it can be moved here and there in that area by toeing. (So no dependancy on govt land)

    6. Revenue through advt space.

    7. Reduces dirtying in the public place corners especially by Indian males.
(No offences meant towards any community)

Some may agree that such faiclities exist in foreign countries...
We can bring this technology to India too....for better society.

Pls share your thoughts on this.

    Regards,

Innovative and purposeful idea from Leela L,

As already our Indian infrastructures to provide basic amenities have failed inspite of our economy booming and the lacklustre responses from Government Health Departments has led to this sorry state of affairs on providing Toilet facilities for the public.

Atleast SULABH has ventured in to these venue and offered few services when others failed to enter.

Even the latest issue of Washington post and world health news articles ridiculed our Toilet systems and time for private operators to start venturing out as a social cause.

    hi leelal,

Looks like a feasible project. but isn't 2rs..too small because, with the attitude in our janta, maintenance and keeping them clean is going to cost more...otherwise it could end up like some of the sulabh toilets....

    Hi Shanti and SUbbu,

    Thanks for your feedback.

Its definitely a feasible project with abudjet of Rs. 3-4 Lakhs Per Unit of 5 closet + 5 urinals. Small units would cost Rs.2-3 laks in the initial stage. Once volume is increased, the price per unit will come down.

Shanti, probably junta like us may opt to pay Rs.5 for good service as we can be saved from infection, dr cost and 1 week of leave. But there are also lot of common man who thinks "Why pay for ****?" (Sorry to use this word in this forum... But in my view "**** business is no longer **** in India". Hence raising the shower price to Rs.10 may be a good choice than increasing the toilet usage charge. Once junta have accepted and got used , probably to control the demand, slight increase may be appreciable.

A single Mobile unit can make revenues through various ways.

    1. Even wastage earns revenue once its passed to fertilizer companies.
    2. Advt space revenue
    3. Revenue through point of sale machines

These days middle class nad high class family children rarely use the school toilets as they are not in quality with their house.

More over miniatured version of these Mobile units can be intalled in Govt schools, rural areas, flood situations and event management locations.
for eg: An event occurs in a school ground where the rent is low and a gathering of 2000 are expected, a unit could be used that evening by the event management company at a rental cost.

More over this provides job opportunity for minimum 3 people per unit in cleaning and maintaining for 16 hours a day.

To proceed on this, what is required is
    1. An excellent design by Structural engineers
    2. Electrical and pipe designs for compactly accomodating the entire units in a maximum of 300 sq.ft.
    3. Tie up with sanitary vendors
    4. fabrication through outsourcing.

Overall may be at IndusLadies, we can pool in money and pilot few mbile units with govt support. Some one else can take up from there.:)-

A good idea Leela. And I am waiting for some one who could invest to take up and do it. People like me will definitely support such measures taken. It is very difficult to make my daughter and her cousins to use the toilets in the beach (some are very clean should accept that fact too), and in malls too. They wait till they come back home.

    Hi Ladies,

Atlast Chennai corporation has come up with few units of low-cost (Not high end luxury models) mobile toilets in Nanganallur. Pls check Hindu last week.
They are planning to take this move further to more tourist centres.

Has any one near Nanganallur seen these units?
