Please forgive me OP.I really do not drag your thread even after your problem is solved.Hope you have a lovely motherhood.

    Spiderman,
The examples were what I had seen and they were meant for the original poster and not for you. I was not generalising but trying to make a point by giving some examples. They were to give her real life examples that having sons do not mean a well secured old age.Daughters are a boon too.

I feel the original posters problem is solved and we dont need to squabble anymore.

    Thank you.

So groom your about to be born DD not like you were. She should not feel restricted to support you in old age.

And :clap :clap :clap to Spiderman... Here there folks yearning for a child and you are thinking of gender that too in 10th century style...means are you even a normal educated person...And why did you get the gender disclosed to you ?? ... You know that is why India has the law in Ultrasound...I think the law should extend to all parts of the world for Indians...

Sorry for using harsh words...but you are digging a well for your ownself by thinking and promoting such thoughts...

If you are not sending the user a PM, and you are posting something on a public forum, then anyone can read and respond to the message. Saying it is for you or not for you is a moot point/silly point when you are posting online.

    Agreed. Bye.

Thanks Inc, and thats my understanding too: it is illegal for docs in India to reveal the gender.

Spidy, I don't think its illegal at least not in Apollo hospitals. When my sis was pregnant with my nephew, she got the sex determination done during her ultra sound. What they did is make her sign a form which states that she will not drop/terminate the pregnancy if it happens to be a girl. Maybe its a different law in different states in India.

Edit: I am for sure going to ask what is the sex of the baby...only because I want to decorate his/her room. I am not kidding...I am not into pink for girl types, but I still want to make sure that what I buy has a girly drapes (if its a girl), frills on the bassinet and crib, flowers for mobile and if its a boy the opposites like, cars on mobiles etc.

As far as I know, this is illegal in all states in India. Can someone clarify?

Yep, in the American suburb where you live (hehe, we call it our suburb LOL!), yeah you can get to know the sex beforehand.

Regarding decoration based on gender, my views are currently practical and non-mushy on that - as long as the baby is healthy thats all that'll matter - the baby has no clue on what we are decorating until it grows to a certain age, so it doesn't matter whether the room is pink, blue, cars, daffodils, or Elvis Presley. LOL :) Who knows if my views change later? and I become *gulp* mushy-er *gulp* like what you are talking about :hide: (Room decorations! gulp! :hide:)

    Rakhi,

i can tell you this for a fact - it is an offence punishable by law. it is valid all over india. clinics have been closed down and doctors lost their licenses for this offence. and no one can be so naive as to ask someone to sign a form promising not to drop the baby. what if that person finds out, goes to some other clinic or worse still to a quack and gets an abortion because the kid is a girl? it is already 3-4 years since this law was introduced. when did your sister have her baby? if it was done before that it is a different story, if not then, sorry to say, whoever has conducted this usg and revealed the gender of the foetus has committed an offence. there are no two ways about it. if this is found out, that hospital is going to be in big time trouble.

i agree, not everyone who finds out the gender of the baby is going to kill it off, but when there are so many people with that kind of mindset, i don't think the govt. has any option. the gender balance is already terribly skewed.

To my knowledge its illegal in India to announce the sex of the feotus.

PS: Why don't we stop arguing in the original subject of this thread. OP has changed the views of her & decided to proceed with her pregnancy. I feel its good to leave this thread alone.
